GIFTS UNAPPRECIATED.The Abbeville Herald announces that hereafter the practice of giving free advertising to public entertainments where admission is charged, such as suppers, bazaars, festivals, etc.. will be discontinued. Editor Golson states that since the establishment of his paper seven years ago he he given of his time and means of. livelihood, knowing that it was a violation of established custom. He concludes:We have become convinced that our co-operation in matters of this kind is regarded as of little value, and in many instances is rot appreciated. Accordingly, from this date, the practice will be discontinued, and all notices regarding entertainments where a charge is made for admission or things of vulue are to be sold will be charged fur at our regular rates for advertising. There will be no exceptions to this rule.If the Herald has given withoutcharge for seven years its stock in trade, then it has been imposed upon for seven years. Certainly those gifts were not appreciated, for the public does not appreciate things that come so easily.There is no reason why those in charge of entertainments where admission Is charged, regardless of whether they are for private or pub-
