Landmark Revamping Delays Opening PlansCompletion of old construction, repairs and refurbishing of rooms will keep the Landmark Tower from opening under Howard Hughes direction until or after July 1, it was revealed yesterday.Hughes recently purchased the space - needle-shaped structure for $17.3 million from former owners Frank Carroll, a Las Vegas contractor, and Sheldon Sandler, a Kansas City, Mo., attorney.Located at Convention Center Drive and Paradise Road, the Landmark is currently the tallest building in Nevada. It stands 31 stories.Construction was begun in 1961, but myriad difficulties have kept the hotel from ever opening under its former owners despite several attempts in the past few years. Also slated to open on or about July 1 is the International Hotel, now under construction, also on Paradise Road about a block from the Landmark. The International, owned by las Vegas financier and Strip hotel operator Kirk Kirkorian, will begin operation with 1,500 rooms. When complete, it will boast 3,000 separate room accommodations.Hughes spokesmen yesterday explained some construction on the Landmark was never completed, certain maintenancesystems are yet to blt;* installed and some repairs will be necessary before the hotel can open. They also said it will be necessary to refurbish some rooms to upgrade the accommodations before the hotel can open its doors. The Landmark, when in full operation, is expected to employ 1,000 to 1,100 persons, according to latest figures.Gaming officials in Las Vegas said yesterday that no gaming applications on behalf of the Landmark have yet been filed by the Hughes organization.Medical Weight ReductionBY THE LATESTmedically approvedMETHODS.DR.
