Notice of democratic committee meeting in this Issue appears the Call of county chairman George hol Lon for the county Central committee to meet in Winslow saturday april 6, for the purpose of electing a new county chairman vice chairman and treasurer. Gray of of Well As democratic elector for this District the democrats of the first District have made a Wise selection. Bob is one of the District s Strong men and Sterling democrats and will strengthen the ticket. He is cashier of the of Well state Bank and is Well known All Over the District. He will add much strength to the ticket in Pike county and we predict that he will carry the District. The Evansville gang succeeded in getting what they wanted at the state convention. Ii fact they got what they went after even if it had to be done at the expense of the Hon. John w. Boehne. They never cared for or. Boehne at any stage of the game. They put up a howl against an imaginary Taggart machine in an Effort to build a great machine with the courier As the Hub and to Force the convention to recognize either John Spencer or a1 Veneman. They succeeded in getting the Quot big Jack recognized but what have they done to or. Boehne but that big machine they thought they were building up was smashed into so Many pieces that not even a spoke can be found except Howard Roosa editor of the courier and he is so Bent and twisted that he is hardly recognizable. There was a time when the Evansville crowd was honestly for or. Boehne. It was one of their num on thursday evening of last week prof. H. Harmeyer gave a reception to the Stendal High school students. The new High school building a Beautiful Brick Structure with All modern in a prove ments was made very pretty throughout by the soft dim lights of the japanese lanterns which were Hung in the Halls and Long corridors. The reception was held on the second floor. The games and contests were held in one of the spacious study rooms which was filled with seats tables and game boards. Just across the Hall a rather Large but cozy recitation room was prepared for the serving of refreshments. This room was a work of Art. The color scheme was done in Green and Gold these being the High school colors. Diagonally through the room was a Long table draped in snowy Linen on which was a table service of fancy engraved glasses and Silver. A Large White Lilly stood in the Center of the table. The napkins were in Green and Gold. The invitation cards were White with Green and Gold ribbons. The table cards were chocolate coloured inscribed with White Ink. Green and Gold ribbons Hung in pretty festoons along the Walls and Over the table. The Corners of the room were banked with ferns and pot Flowers and Blooming Flowers filled the window Sills. At 7 o clock the students began to a arrive and they were met at the door by the reception committee consisting of misses Lena Brewster Sarah Stork and Mary Harmeyer and were ushered to the study room arranged for games and contests. Some of the contests were very amusing causing shouts of laughter others were hard and required hard thinking. Prizes were awarded to misses a a Bari Ett Ethel Ambrose and Estel Bass and messes. Norman Ingram Curtis Ambrose and Gilbert Corn. After the games and contests came the March to the dining room. They formed in single file. Prof. Harmeyer Lead a ing to the strains of the Beau a Tifful Quot Westminster March Quot they marched across the Hall and took their respective places at the table. As they remained standing one of the students Ollie Kays o Fred thanks. The refreshments consisted of peaches and whipped Cream cake and lemonade. eating readings were Given by several of the students and a musical contest was worked out by guessing the titles of eighteen songs by hearing a few strains of the Melody on the Organ. Ollie Kays gave the speech for the students. His theme was Quot the blessings of a living he spoke of How prof. Harmeyer had helped them during the past year and How he had inspired them by teaching and example. It was a very touching speech for it was indicative of love and High esteem in which pro. Harmeyer is held by the students. Prof. Harmeyer gave the closing speech. It was simple and Clear but Rich in to ought. The program for the evening ended with the students standing around the table clasping hands and singing Quot Blest be the time that binds this week brings to a close a very sue Cessill year for the High school prof. Harmeyer is a Model Young Man and a Christian gentleman.
