. . ABOUT THE BLUES
. St. Louis has clinched a playoff
spot at 49- 23- 7, and is now trying
to hold off both Nashville and
Chicago to finish atop the Central
Division. The Blues have 105
points, the Preds are at 104 and the
Hawks at 102.
. The Blues edged the Hawks 2- 1 in
Chicago Sunday night, giving them
control of how the rest of this week
goes. Each team has three games
remaining. St. Louis is 5- 3- 2 in its
last 10 and has won three straight.
. Jake Allen made 38 saves in the
St. Louis net for the win and will
start against the Jets tonight. When
asked after Monday’s practice if it
was difficult telling veteran Brian Elliott
he was going with Allen again,
Blues coach Ken Hitchcock said:
“ Maybe for him, but not for me. I’ve
got to do what’s best for the hockey
club and what’s best for the hockey
club is whoever’s playing the best
gets to play. That’s just the way it
is.”
. Allen, FYI, is 4- 0- 1 in his last five
starts with a .956 save percentage
and 1.20 goal- against average. In
Elliott’s last four starts the Blues
were 1- 3 and the netminder had
an .824 save percentage. Elliott
faced the media as well on Monday
and was asked if he was reading
anything into the change — Hitchcock,
after all, had said recently the
vet would carry the load into the
playoffs.
“ There’s an inside voice and an
outside voice, so...” Elliott said. “ I
have my own feelings, so I’ll keep
them to myself.”
. One more thing on the goaltending
situation for the Blues as the
playoffs approach: St. Louis is
29- 10- 3 when Allen starts.

Ondrej Pavelec made 32 saves and the Winnipeg
Jets earned two big points with a 2- 0 win
over the Minnesota Wild on Monday.
It was Pavelec’s 14th career shutout, and perhaps
his biggest, as Winnipeg moved into the
second wild- card position in the Western Conference,
two points ahead of the L. A. Kings who
were in action Monday night against Vancouver.
Blake Wheeler and Drew Stafford scored the
Jets’ goals in their second straight win.
The Wild would have clinched a playoff berth
with a win, but they lost their third straight
game for the first time since Jan. 3- 13.
Devan Dubnyk allowed both Jets goals on 34
shots.
