Here Are four millions of population from which to draw students to fill up the various departments in the University. It patronage and religious character. We would place it solely under the patronage of the methodist episcopal Church either of the general conference or of any number of annual conferences As might after due consideration be agreed on. Its religious character should be like our other institutions having the professors decidedly religious men and the Bible should he a Claes Book read and studied by All As their great confession of Faith. While the religious teaching should be orthodox evangelical and True it should not be sectarian in the sense of excluding any from the Good moral conduct who would take the Bible for their guide. A a a we would place it As far South As the Southern verge of Pennsylvania or Ohio for the purpose of placing the coloured Man As far As possible in the climate to reasoning countries. This seems to us to be f we Are confidant it will be found to fact Railroad by any restrictions except to labor for some time in the vocation of teachers in any place where their services May be needed or the Providence of god would direct. We would certainly have a Good Law school in which coloured Young men would study Law thoroughly and thus be prepared to serve their own people As Well As others who would employ them and plead their cause in the United states courts or in any other courts of our country or in any country where their lots would be cast. The University should embrace a medical department in which All the parts of a Good medical education could be obtained. The doctors taught thus would be prepared to practice Medicine among their own people in this country or elsewhere wherever the Providence of god would conduct them. A biblical school too we think should be a part of this University in which such Young men As need it would receive instruction in inference to the duties off Well qualified preacher to genre their Brethren of the african race wherever their services would be needed. The faculties should first be made up of White professors to be substituted wholly or principally by coloured professors As soon As persons duly qualified should be obtained. Sources of students. The two Hundred thousand free coloured persons in the fret Itati would furnish a goodly number and Hope of retiring
