The grouting is being done on the breast Wall of the no. 3 Reservoir. This is a process in which Cement Sand and a chem ical agent for sealing Are mixed and pumped through bore holes into the Wall. There had been reports that the Reservoir might collapse but they were dismissed by Earl g. Schwalm the water company manager. There s no danger of such a thing he said. The grouting is designed to Stop a substructure leak which has been in evidence since the Reservoir was built in 1905, or. Seh Waln. Said. He said that the rumours pro Bably started when someone saw workmen on the breastworks he noted that the firm s re cords show that in 1930 an at tempt was made to Stop the leak. This failed. And in 1954 exploratory test bores were made. At that time everything was ruled sound. This past March new. Test bores were drilled. Water com Pany officials Felt that this would be the time to Start grouting. Leak Cut Down since the grouting started or. Schwalm said we have stopped the leak by 90 per the Reservoir Wall is Stron Ger now than it has Ever been he added. At present the Reservoir contains some 90 million Gallons of water and is about 56 feet deep at its deepest Point. The grouting is being done by a repast Concrete of Cleveland Ohio an International firm Deal Ling in this Type of work. Donald Brown Field superintendent for a repast Concrete said that a sold Wall of Cement is being placed across the Reservoir s breastworks. This is All being placed in the ground. Bore holes Are drilled Down through the area stall and into solid bed Rock. When this is done the Grout mixture is pumped into the bore holes. It spreads out and fills any cracks that exist.
