STATE CAPITAL CHAT.
Gov. Vessey has granted a pardon
to Ed A- Bailey, sent from Codington
county on a charge of burglary. This
pardon was granted on the recommen
dation of the pardon board He also
granted a pardon to W. B. Blanchard,
sent from Marshall county on a charge
of embezzlement. He has granted pa-
roles to Charles E Titus, sent from
Jerauld county on a charge of forgery;
to J. 12. Hotter, sent from Meade county
on a Uke charge, and to H. n. Sweitser,
serving a sentence for grand larceny.
The work of surveying the proposed
Chamberlaio-Huron line of railway has
been completed. The survey was made
by R. G. Culbertson, R. M. Fulweller
and C. C. McHugh, under direction of
the Missouri Vafley Engineering com-
pany, of MMrball. 8 D. The proposed
line will be about eighty miles in
length.
Information has reached here that
an application will be filed with the
sUte%oard of pardons asking that a
pardon be granted to Joseph P. Cole-
man, who la serving a life term in the
Sioux Falls penitentiary for the mur-
der of his brother. It is planned to
hav* the application filed in time bo It
can be considered by the state board
of pardons at its next meeting. The
crime charged against Coleman, the
slaying of bla brother, was commlted
In Faulk county eight years ago last
June. While the evidence offered
against him at the trial was purely
