Terre Haute Daily Union (Newspaper) - July 1, 1857, Terre Haute, Indiana Laity Nian. I. M. Browtt editor. T. B. Loing a a otly a editor. Terre Hajj the. Wednesday morning july 1, ?T57.wife stealing treachery of woman. We scarcely pick up an Exchange without seeing a notice of some woman who has eloped with a miserable scamp to the great annoyance of her children relatives and this femoral zing conduct seems to be contagious and is foun 1 in High and Low circles and is fast spreading Over the country at a fearful rate. There cannot possibly to anything that tends to demoralize a Community More than 8u h conduct and we think that if there can be a reformation effected through the Workings of a rigid Law. We certainly need one to meet this class of crime that would compare in severity to the edicts Given to the executioners during Tho reign of Pope innocent iii. We have had cause to rejoice for months past that our Community was free from reproach in this respect but As time tolled on the pestilential breath of the destroyer seems to Hare reached the quiet atmosphere of our Beautiful City. It come like a thief in the night a it has robbed Sweet Little children of their natural Parent and separated them for life. In this to the baby it operates on a parallel with the Mission of death. There is a vacancy around the onco cheerful fire Side which no one can Supply Thero is a cry for mama Ohma but no answer Falls upon their attentive ear no kiss to quiet the quivering lip no hand to Caress the trembling form or to administer to their craving wants which can Only be Dono by the natural Mother. When we look upon this matter in its proper Light it seems to us that the Man who would lend his influence towards bringing such misery and heart sickening distress upon a family of children should in Justice to humanity be put to the rack or subjected to the severest punishment that a Christian people could conscientiously inflict. In All such cases As above referred to it would be Infra Italy preferable that death should be the Means of severing Tho parental tic to that of the bestial passions. A few months ago we had occasion to mention a Caso where two Little children came to our House at a late hour of Tho night for Protection we took Tho Little waifs in gave them their suppers at which Tho eyes of the Little Fellows seemed to Glisten with Joy. They had been forcibly ejected from their Home by an unnatural Mother this woman who had sworn be Foro High heaven and witnesses upon Earth to be a Mother to those children had violated that obligation that she might Tho mom readily gratify her inhuman desires. The result was a separation while tales of a disgraceful nature passed from one to another through Tho Community Tho husband was unjustly vilified and belied solely to cover up the criminal acts of the Man or men who were instrumental in bringing this disgrace upon this family of children and Tho Community. Coming Down to a later Date we hear of another of a More revolting nature. Slut a few Days ago a woman who was the Mother of two Little children imagined that she could do better by taking up with another Man and leaving her children that she might get rid of Tho trouble and vexation of rearing the Little ends of innocence in the path of virtue which Only leads to happiness. The husband of this woman is a hard working and enterprising Many much too Good for the woman he once claimed As his wife. We cannot think of these cases without the very thought causing our blood to run cold and would consider my selves blessed if we never heard of another similar Case. If there is no Law through which to purify and protect the family Circle in this respect we think one might be quickly Quot enrolled Quot that would operate about As Well As the nature of the Case might permit and thereby give a Sci nuts warning to future dope. One could almost imagine he stood in View of the fire department of Cincinnati the Best in the world when he heard the loud commands of the captains the cheers of the crowd and the machine like motions of the brakes in the hands of the Well trained companies. No one could decide which excelled while every one commended the Friendly rivalry displayed May they both whenever the occasion requires it stand Side by bide in actual duty As they did in this trial of skill neither one excelling the other and both doing Honor to themselves and their cause. Several attempts were made by boats from the vessels to res no the serial voyager but on their approach he was carried beyond their reach. Speculation was excited along the Lake Shore to know who be was and whence be came. He proved to bean a Ron aunt from Philadelphia by the name of Stein who had ascended from Cleveland. When Over the Lake he counted thirty eight vessels in sight and at the height of three Miles he could hear the shouts of the Crews who caught sight of his flying ship. He struck the water three Miles above the proper scr Stewart and in seven minutes passed her about Twenty rods astern. The balloon would strike the water and rebound into the air from Twenty to fifty feet As it rushed Down the Lake with Railroad Speed. Men in one of the propellers boats got hold of a Long rope Stein threw out. The balloon dragged the boat with a will and though the sailors pulled the Row Cocks off the boat they could not Stop their novel tug. Or s. Then leaped into the water and was picked up while swimming. Tho balloon was swept off by the Gale. It Cost 8500, and is the third or. S. Has lost. The grave of Henry Clay. The editor of the presbyterian being on a visit to Kentucky thus writes to his paper concerning the grave of the lamented Clay from the spot whore Henry Clay lived it is natural to Tho resting place of his mortal remains. On an Eminence a Short distance from Lexington in a Beautiful cemetery adorned with that exquisite Wood land and verdure which characterises this Region rests the honoured dust. Here after that memorable and imposing funeral match through mourning towns and cities from the Federal capital where he breathed his last to the Home where he was accustomed to repose from the toil and strife of Public affairs his mortal remains were Laid to sleep the Long sleep when the work of life was done. At present the spot is Only marked by the turfed Hillock which covers the grave but his old friends and neighbors Are about erecting a Noble monumental Shaft which will he alike creditable to their liberality patriotism and Good taste and appropriate to the office for which it is reared. It is to be of Kentucky Stone one Hundred and Twenty rive feet High surmounted by a statue of the deceased and provided with a vault at the base in which will he placed a sarcophagus containing the remains. On such a spot As this one can scarcely help moralizing on the transitory and evanescent nature of All human distinctions and All earthly Fame. Yonder in front of that court House in the adjacent City is where assembled multitudes were first electrified by that lofty and Graceful oratory which was destined to Entrance s nation. In the years which intervened Between that first unfolding of Bis gifts and the hour when his voice was hushed in death what Honor and renown were won and yet Bright As May be the Halo which these earthly achievements cast around his memory what is All the glitter of this worlds Gloner to the Eye that is sealed in death How unspeakably More important the glory that never fades away 1 pm m Jit we happen to know Ahat or.
