The Community been without traffic lights since i tile construction of the new main by. And councilmen feel that regulation a Stop and go Quot signal lights Are needed. The subject came in for detailed a attention following receipt of a let ter from the state Highway depart j ment asking for information regarding the status of a a caution lights at i three intersections Mechanic and main. Fulton and main and Marvin and main. Permission was granted by the state for the installation last March but Council did not thing the a a caution lights adequate and is anxious to bid for a Stop and go lights. The state turned Down a Smethport request once after a traffic count but Council tuesday night instructed solicitor Robert b Apple to request another count now that traffic been increased on the new Street. Council also handled the following business tuesday night adopted an ordinance prohibiting parking on the South Side of main St. From Hui St. To Allegany St. This will become effective within about two weeks. First offence will carry a two Dollar Fine. Second offence will be subject to a five Dollar Fine or live Days in jail. Adopted an ordinance ordering construction of a Cement sidewalk on West Side of Marvin St. From water St. To the Borough line granted salary increases to s. H Norman and Glenn Mencer employees of the Borough electric department since 1922. Or. Norman who been serving As superintendent will now be superintendent of the Plant and receives an increase of $24 a month to bring his salary to $286 a month. Or Mencer formerly assistant superintendent h i s duties changed to superintendent of construction and maintenance. His salary was increased $41 a month to $286. William Burdick was placed on the electric department staff at a salary of $200 a month. Celebration postponed the Smethport Day Celebration scheduled for saturday september 10th, a been postponed until saturday september 24th. Emergency polio drive opens in county today National foundation drive starts today ends september loth officers of the Mckean county chapter for infantile paralysis discussed plans for backing the j National foundations emergency i drive at an emergency meeting held tuesday afternoon at the office of George Tiffany in Bradford. The National foundation will hold its drive from thursday sept. 8. Through thursday. Sept. 15, to build up its National emergency fund. This fund been almost exhausted All funds raised locally will go to the National foundation. The Mckean county chapter will establish stands in Banks and other locations for the collection of funds.
