Biamonte project manager said that the process devised by Ricanda has been used of five continents not Only in dam construction but in the building of subways canals weirs and building foundations. The existing seepage according to the u. S. Army corps of engineers involves Only the Earth filled of the Kinzua dam and is no Way involved with the Hunkin Conkey phase of construction. As Ricanda readied its operational equipment he Swift moving cats were continuing hauling Earth fill to the the dam site. Biamonte said that Ricanda s operation basically consists in building an underground Concrete Wall working specifically from the surface. He stated that the excavation was possible through the use of bentonite. The project manager explained that the bentonite penetrates into the ground surrounding the excavation and by a chemical and physical reaction becomes Jelly. As workers and machinery continue to Drill Down the bentonite cake seals cracks where seepage occurs consolidates the excavation Wall and makes a membrane which will avoid any Cave in. It will be necessary to reach Rock 155 feet below ground Bia Onti said and then penetrate two feet into the Rock.
