present pet you have never show it 1 he time Iowa is Normal and that Means moment people suspect your having the election of a re pubic Zitelli Gynce they wont vote for you if Vou should get elected dont show intelligence in the presence or your colleagues they dont like it tins As All history shows is a True commentary on our government Money leaving town by this time everybody has again paid their electric Light Bill and should be in a receptive Frame of mind for a protest against sending so much Good Money out of town and getting so Little value for it it Hurt us so much that we investigated the municipally owned Plant at Orange City to see if this situation were absolutely necessary found that the amount of electricity we used which Cost s1276 from the Iowa company could have been purchased from tile municipal Plant it Orange City for is 177 this would amount to a saving of nearly 5100 a month for u that saving itself is a Good reason Why Sioux Center should investigate and think seriously about j a municipal Plant of its own but it is the smallest item and the least important Here is the store of Orange City and its Light Plant seven years ago Orange City was to need with a situation very similar to what we Are facing today namely sending thousands of dollars each year our of town dollars which could so nicely have been used for local pub Lic improvements and paying of necessary Bills they decided to do something about it and did they installed a Plant of their own going into debt to the extent of 5500000 1 Oday Only seven Short years later they have a Plant Worth and Only debt against it besides they have in Cash in the Bank with which to pay this debt even this seems unbelievable but still Only half of the Story out of the Money the City has made from its own electric Light Plant it has installed a disposal Plant the Cost of which was bought a fire truck for the town for and installed a water Reservoir Cost ing tins All is almost unbelievable when we Stop to consider that there Are Only 200 More people in Orange City than in Sioux Center but it is very encouraging when we realize that we who Are so Well acquainted with the cooperative idea can do the same thing the above figures can easily be pc Niimd by anybody who doubts their accuracy by driving to Orange City and inquiring at the Plant it self n High Quality of some of the we have elected in the past is i the men a boast in our history so rare Are they however that their occasional appearance seems an Accident and is proof of our Contention if our Learned professions had so Little Advance in their vital services to humanity As our politicians have in theirs our surgery would still Hethe brutal butchery and our hospitals the pest houses they were a Century ago we would still be the victims of deadly pestilence our modern conveniences would All be unheard of it is no fiction to say that we which Cost us have no real Progress Public serve i to bought a half Century such reforms As have been made in some of our institutions have been made Only after Long agitations under the leadership of others than politicians and in the lace of bitter opposition from them our government and our Laws arc two generations behind the Progress we have made in other lines the situation we Are in at this the crime wave the Inadequacy of our statesmen in the face of grave economic in no Small measure to this fact our Able men have gone into the profession and business and we make no Effort to gain their ser vice in Public life instead we vote for the fellow with a glib Tongue and an empty head when we want expert service we seek out the Man who knows Why not elect Wise men to office Why be satisfied with anything less than the Best n need him As a Bright sunshiny Day always Cheerie than a Cloudy or Dennis continued 30 does plenty of Light at night make a Home lean to sue Cheerie and the people in it happier Sioux City journal 0 prohibition amendment needed contributed police commissioner Edward p Mulrooney of new York City dwelt upon the fact that in a year a firm there sold 785 machine guns and that in a checkup on the list of saes the intelligence our politics due to several inquiries As to our stand on political matters we will again state our position by training and Breeding we Are republicans by nature and temperament we Are inde pendent the effect of such a combination would be that we in the main will support the Republican party especially in local that is when one is sick one seeks the Aid of a physician Ashen a surgical operation is called for a surgeon i called in the qualifications of county politics but we will never support a Man merely because he Hap pens to be running on the Republican ticket we will Only support the who can convince us that he is the Best Man of those running for Ivha Tever office he is running whether we believe lie has a Chance or not will make no difference As Ong As we Are intellectually con Vinced that that Man is better than Lis opponent an example of our stand can he in our support of Steck for the Senate is preference to Dickinson i it would be the Best policy to sup port Dickinson for his chances of election Are almost a certainty where As Stecks chances Are no More than Sert that the second amendment to the Constitution bars the War of such legislation by amendment setting Forth that right of the people to keep and Bear arms shall not be infringed i f that is the Case we need another prohibition amendment to the 20 now in die Constitution prohibiting
