Sioux Center News (Newspaper) - June 24, 1971, Sioux Center, IowaNeighbors cultivate Corn for injured John Kronos these 15 thoughtful neighbors of John Renes of one mile West of Carmel were Quick to come to John s Aid thurs Day when his 110 acres of Corn needed immediate cultivating to keep the fast growing grass from gaining too much head Way and John was still in the Sioux Center Community hos Pital recuperating from an injury. The men appeared at the Renes place about 8 30 . Thursday with 14 tractors and cultivators and by 11 . Had the whole 110 acres cultivated. They also came on monday to help fill silo. Four neighbor women joined mrs. Renes in preparation of mid morning lunch which was served to the men in the Corn Field. They were mrs. Paul Kleyer mrs. Tony Hooyer mrs. Bernie Van t Hof and mrs. Kenneth Sandbulte. The helpful neighbors were front Row left to right Wil Tard Hulstein Elmer Sandbulte Bernie Van t Hof Kenneth Sandbulte Milton Sandbulte Bill Schoep Dallas de Jong. Albert de wild visited several Days with relatives and friends. Friday evening they had a pot Luck supper at the Hull Park. The Romberg family from Indiana mrs. Effie Vander Kooi mrs. Workman. Or. Zigterman Mark and Brian from Denver colo., visited relatives at Prinsburg Minn. Monday and tuesday. Or. And mrs. Guys Vander Brink and mrs. Winnie Van Engen attended the City Council proceedings june 7, 1971 the City Council of the City of Sioux enter Iowa met in regular session on the above Date at 5 30 . There were present the mayor. Maurice a. Tepaske in the chair. And the following named councilmen e. John Kosters Ross k. Vernon Dale Den Herder and r. W. Rozeboom. Absent William l. Mouw. " Bills for the month of May were audited and upon Roll Call vote of the Council were. Unanimously approved for payments. The City manager reported to the coun cil that informal bids had been received for excavation for water Mam extensions. He re ported that two bids had been received As Fol lows 1. So is a Bros. 29� per it excavation 7� per it. Tamping5j per it. Back filling total 41f Petty 2. Don Vander Schaaf 27� per it. Excavation 5c per it. Tamping 5t per it. Back filling total 37 per f t. The above prices were quoted on a total of 1,350 it. Of work to be done. After consideration of the bids As received it was moved by Dale Den Herder and supported by r. W. The City manager reported to the coun cil concerning the proposed Purchase of a new water pump for municipal purposes. After con Side ration of this matter it was moved by e. Nays City manager reported to the coun cil that he had received a letter from the Iowa natural resources Council concerning approval of a permit to withdraw water from the West Branch water shed area for municipal purposes. He reported that a permit had been approved for a total withdrawal of 400,000,000 Gallons per year at a maximum rate of 3,000 Gallons per Man. He stated further that this permit supersedes any and All previous permits and that the termination of this permit would be june 2, 1891. He reported further that talc. Permit does include All existing Wells As Well As approximately 7 new Wells now being con City manager reported to the coun cil that it would be necessary to re Shingle the existing shelter House in the Central Park. He reported that a quotation had been received for this work in the amount of $500.00. After discussion or this matter it was moved by Dale Don Herder and supported by e. The City manager presented to the Council an engineering contract for engineering services on improvements new being proposed for the Sioux Center municipal Airport.
