Richard Maxon and or. Kenneth Stone both marketing experts at Iowa , and Louie Hansen of the 1su Extension service at City Hall tuesday evening. The special speakers offered numerous facts and figures regarding business Community and population comparisons Between Sioux Center and other area towns for the purpose of considering the undertaking of a mall shopping Center or department store project Here. Stone made Light of a mini mall project at Carroll Iowa. Carroll is the dominant business Community in Carroll county and when its mini mall went into operation in 1972, the volume of business boomed. Attention then turned to Sioux Center. Stone said the North might be a Good area to Schiebout elected Lazau president swimming in february no you re not seeing things. The girl about to dive into the Sioux Cen Ter indoor swimming Pool is Kay Stetson a University of South Dakota coed. Her coach seen in Forgerou parents greater Respo Sibil. Ity. Inspiration jus is a place they can come away from the peer pressure we As parents partly to blame because we have our priorities i plied up i we us to see our t"1 a nors an awards so we a everything they have aggressive because we need that too. But remember if they take time to focus their attention on Christ at inspiration Hills and accept him As lord of their life. That it is not a material gain but they receive an eternal Reward. That is the biggest trophy anybody can receive and it is a free gift. God Calls us to minister to the spiritual needs of our world. We also want to share with you that after study and praying about inspiration Hills it was just As difficult to submit a yes answer As it was to give a no answer to the classes. I personally after All the data was put together could not answer to god no we Don t need it the Retreat ministry has real potential As Long As we get behind it and make it a tool in the hand of god. Divorce is on the rampage today. I be talked to several Young people who met their life partner at a Church Camp and married and Are now living the Christian life together. These Are some of the reasons we feel led by god to give a positive yes to the classes along with Many other positive reasons. The classes voted its support. Do we have duplication of facilities we have been using other Camp facilities in the past. I m told that plans Are being made at Lake Shetek for another lutheran Camp because Walther league cannot accommodate them Alii we were compelled to Register 1 year in Advance for these facilities and when that Date came the youth seem to have other. A commitments. When you need to schedule retreats t year in Advance it seems to Loose its Impact. We Gaye consideration toothed buildings and locations As Well this was a very extensive study. We could not find a building that we could use for proper programming without spending alot of Money on it. We tried to be stewards of the a Money that the lord has Given to each of us. Many of the . Leaders advised us to keep a ministry such As inspiration Hills away from the Hustle and Bustle of our Small 1 towns and cities. Obligation or inspiration a Good Christian gentleman from another town said to me some time ago what is our obligation i said no obligation the classes is asking for $3.00 a member. We should perhaps question our terminology when we refer to any Church project that is being of vital importance to the kingdom of god As an obligation. When souls arc being brought to the foot of the Cross through the function s of this project and god is Blessing it it no longer is an obligation for a Christian. If god is realized in the project it is an inspiration not an obligation. The Christian Call is to minister that is what god wants so that puts you on the winning team with god As partner. Obligation with any project in the Church tends to bring negativism to our minds. I m not an authority on this but sometimes we May have the cart before the horse. A More positive Side is 1. Is this project we Are considering a purposeful ministry 2. Will it bring More lives in focus with a Christ entered life 3. Can it minister to the lives of Young and old 4. Can it become a real effective part of the Christian Church 5. Do 1 have an open mind to Church expansion As god gives me a vision after these questions have been carefully prayed about and talked about then it will be easy to answer question no. 6. 6. How much do we need to sacrifice by our gifts prayers Effort and enthusiasm to support this cause you and god can decide that our present evaluation of inspiration Hills last summer it was filled to capacity Many Young people accepted Christ. Many adults from various classes expressed a great Deal of enthusiasm for the project. Last summer Cost of operation left us with $8000.00 in the Black. This year we had 93 , some for a few Days some for a week. It consisted of 5000 campers using the facilities As Well As other Church groups. Also our sister denominations have leased the facilities. Financial support has been commendable from All four of our. Classes area. There have been Many spirit filled experiences there to god be the glory May All of god s children be challenged to expand the cause of Christ to the world and not become complacent by staying in Pur Shell. May god enable us to keep a vision for outreach. May All of us realize a growing experience in our lives and in our Community not Only at inspiration Hills but other causes As Well. God bless every one of you. Remember god will not Lead you where the Grace of god cannot keep you. I former postmaster Dies relatives received word of. The death of or. Alan Muilenburg former Sioux Center postmaster who resided in Artesia Calif. Or. Mullenburg died of cancer at the age fool., the s survived by his wife Jean who lives draw business from but that the South would Tot be As Good a drawing area. Since i960. Sioux Center has shown a healthy population increase of 51.65%, from 2.275 to 3,450 in the 1970 census. The current population is now closer to 4,000. Until 1968, Sioux Center Rock Valley. Orange City and Hawarden were All very even in total taxable sales but in 1973, Sioux Center began pulling away from the others. Sioux Center also leads the other county communities in City retail sales As a percent of county effective buying income spending Money left after taxes but Rock Valley is the county Leader in City per capita sales. Maxon said this could be attributable to the fact that Sioux Center is a College town and that College students do not spend nearly As much Money As other private working Consumers. Among other statistics distributed was the composition of sales which showed Sioux Center with $5,338 in 1976 per capita taxable sales. The state average for towns of Sioux Center s size is Only $4,255, which Means that Sioux Center is 25.5% above the average. Sioux Center sales As a percentage of the six county area s effective buying income was 2.3% in 1968. That figure jumped to 4.6% in 1976. A 100% increase in just eight years. Maxon termed this Rise As a remarkable in a comparison of 1976 buying for six Northwest Iowa counties Cherokee Lyon o Brien Plymouth and Sioux it was deducted that Sioux county with the largest population of the six has the fewest Low income households and the most High income households. Not Only does Sioux county have the largest population and the most buying Power it also has perhaps More business Competition than that of the other counties in the study. The fact that Sioux Center is surrounded by so Many towns of comparable size along with the county s High incomes and buying Power helps to make the Competition what it is. Among Maxon s conclusions were these Carroll at population 8,000 at the Start of its project and the dominant Community in its county had a naturally bigger retail Trade area than Sioux Center docs. Sioux Center has three towns within its county offering Tough Competition but is emerging As the retail sales Leader. Both towns have a High Community spirit and both have a High rate of effective buying income. Both Are also increasing population Maxon stated that shoppers come to a Community which has Good stores and Good services but that the most important reason is a town s expectation belief that a Community has something to offer. Expectation brings in people from greater distances. It is derived from size and variety. To draw people from farther distances and a town must build on that expectation with reasonable prices big size and advertising promotions. In 1962, a University of Iowa study put Sioux Center s Trade area at 18 Miles wide by ii Miles Long. Since then this area has expanded one half mile both ways for a 15% increase. The increases and the Progress have been and arc evident. The reason the cd group is investigating mini mall shopping Center possibilities is that it feels the Community must build on that Success to prevent backsliding. As Maxon said when you re succeeding it s easier to add to that i would very much like to see a Community keep its facilities together. It helps bolster the expectation Factor. Right How you re Sioux Center at the Point where somebody could build something Over Here and another Guy comes along and puts up something Over there Maxon added. The cd group docs not want to see the Sioux Center business Community frag mint that s Why it was formed in the first place. After hearing All these facts arts evaluations cd president Lee Plasier deemed it advisable to evaluate and assess the material before the next meeting takes place. i Uuk at 18430 Arline ave., Artesia and nephews and nieces and a Host of friends. Or Muilenburg was postmaster in Sioux Center for 12 years and in Artesia for 8 years. He also owned the Central cafe for 5 years his wife was the former Jean got to whom he had been married 39 years. A Frost and Snow temperatures spiralled into the rigid zone last week causing Northwest iowans and Sioux Center Testo stay indoors. The Frost and Snow covered Trees seen above fairly Well represent our area the last of january. Forecaster report that drops m temperature will not be heavy going into february but somehow after the bitter colds a people Are wondering whether they should see before they believe what they hear.
