Sioux Center News (Newspaper) - April 4, 1974, Sioux Center, Iowa Editorials tapering of Ltd trial spading could ittle Check most thinking americans Are we that a tapering off of Federal at least to the Point that the government could operate for a change in the would be one practical and fairly easy Way of helping bring runaway inflation in and give More stability to the National a of Federal spending might mean fewer Grants by Uncle Sam for various pro but if such cuts would help stabilize the econ the nation could readily afford to get along with or project sat least for a the proposed Federal budget for 1975 Calls for spending think of it Federal at will amount to Bil so if carried through As we Are going to add nearly another billion to our National we continue to spend Money on the Federal level As if it grew on Trees without if we can continue to add billions and billions to our National debt every year and in pay a severe penalty for it the defense department alone plans to spend billion during the coming fiscal for a year of so called world peace and continued Cooling of the cold War Between communist nations and the that seems a bit to say the but the defense department is for the administration is for most of the Congress is apparently for so it appears unlikely that any trimming will that a very doubtful people demand that it be most of the billion increase in the Federal budget for 1975 reflects Sharp increases in social food Stamps and defense there might be some in this period of rapid for the people of fixed and lower to receive but this can and the budget still be held within projected if we Are willing to eliminate some of the fluff in other common Good business tells us that it is High time we started to realize there definitely is a limit to Federal that a never ending build up of the National debt is not the Way to permanent Prosperity and financial must we spend our Way to disaster we can still reverse this fiscal per haps in if but who is to do it the people can look to political leaders to move us in the right a 1074 the Sioux Center news Page 2 april but it appears that looking is not its going to take some pressure from the people if they want a change of direction there going to have to stand up and be counted and be willing to give up a they Are going to have to move m and in Sist demand that our governmental representatives in Washington do what should have been done a Long time ago Cut Federal even if it is unpopular in self entered this is a truth so obvious that it is maddening to have to keep bringing it it makes one feel like the Wolf howling in the whose howl is wafted away on the its a Case of everyone knowing what in the face of Good be but everyone turning a deaf ear hoping on Hope that to ignore the problem will make it go of must it be so your Faith mine by Tom Westfall a sure cure for Toothache several trips to the dentist recently served to remind me of William Shakespeare there never was a philosopher who could endure a Toothache How right he was and his words dont apply Only to philosophers either most of us find it difficult to be patient in the face of lifes adversities and if we have a we want u if we Are we want a if we Are in financial we want if we Are we want companionship and and we want these things now this human trait of seeking to escape from Lone and financial distress can often create More problems than it for we assume that the answer to a financial problem is More Money when in reality it might be a More Wise and patient use of the Money we As so Many people we might think the answer to loneliness is to Compromise our values in order to be popular when actually we need patiently to cultivate in ourselves the Quali ties of heart and mind which make us acceptable on our own thus mistakenly we set ourselves on a course which ultimately will Rob us of the genuine solution to our most of us tend toward this oversimplification with the result that our deepest problems never Are impatient to rid ourselves of we treat symptoms rather than the disease we become weary of trying to treat a major disease with we desire a real and lasting solution to our lifes if you have reached this Point in your i suggest that you make an exhaustive inquiry into the claims of Jesus you May find that he can Supply you with patience in and the peace which patience he May take care of your Toothache also Sioux county court House news Thomas James Gnewuch appeared by his attorney Loren Veldhuizen before judge upon application of it was ordered tha
