in Oil City which will be presented March 24 at Texas Lutheran College Tickets are available at the Jackson Auditorium Box Office Oil City Symphony production planned Oil City an off broadway musical comedy will be performed as part of its nationwide tour at Texas Lutheran Colleges Jackson Auditorium on March 24 at 7 This musical comedy features a fourmember cast who return after about 20 years to Oil City High School to perform a recital for their class reunion The musical provides a satirical insight into the unique high school environment During the performance the four dedicate a song to their high school music teacher Mrs Reeves Not a regular cast member the person portraying Mrs Reeves is someone chosen from the audience Oil City heightens its comical perfor mance throughout the production by interacting with the audience Playing music which spans sever al generations the cast will take audience members back to their good ol days of high school Mel Gussow of the New York Times said No matter when one went to high school Oil City Symphony should stir affectionate memories A musi cal with The cast members include percus sionist Laura Lemle portraying Debbie Emily Mikesell as Mary who sings and plays violin flute and saxophone pianist and accordion player Frank Schiro as Mark and Joel Spineti as Mike who plays the synthesizer Oil City Symphony was created to illstrate a small town in Texas while exhibiting as much America na as possible Oil City premiered in 1987 With Seguin as one stop on its nationwide tour Oil City will also be performing in other Lecture in Economics March 7 at in the San Marcos Room of the LBJ Student Center Featured speaker Jared E Hazel ton director of the Center for Busi ness and Economic Analysis at Tex as University will deliver a presentation on Economic Trends in the Hazeltons academic career includes faculty appointments in the Department of Economics and the LBJ School of Public Affairs at the University of Texas at Austin and administrative appointments as associate dean of the LBJ School and dean of the Graduate School of Public Affairs at the University of Washington in Seattle He has authored four mono graphs over 40 professional articles and three books His most recent The Administration of Macroeco homic Policy in the Johnson Pres was published in 1987 by the University of Texas Press His professional career has also included serving with the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston the Ford Foundation project specialist in economic the Texas Research League and Mesa Limited Partnership vice Rice University awarded him the Gordon Fuller Memorial Award for outstanding research in the fields of the humanities and social sciences He is associated with many profes sional and civic organizations including the Southwestern Eco nomics Association the National Taxpayers Conference and the Cap ital Area Branch of the Arthritis Foundation A native of Oklahoma City he received a bachelor of business administration degree from the University of Oklahoma and a ifi economics from Rice University The Erickson Lecture Series is funded by an endowment bequest of the late Maurice J Erickson a for mer S WT professor of economics Erickson served on the SWT faculty for 31 years beginning in 1947 through his retirement in 1978 He was the first chairman of the Economics Department when the SWT School of Business was formed in 1970 The series is sponsored by the Department of Finance and Eco nomics in cooperation with The Center for Economic Education SAN MARCOS The Texas State University System Board of Regents has approved preliminary plans for the first phase of a new recreational sports complex at Southwest Jexas State University Meeting on the SWT campus Feb 22 TSUS regents unanimously approved the plans submitted by the Houston architectural firm Bernard Johnson Inc and authorized the firm to prepare final plans and specifica tions and advertise for bids on the project The building will be paid for by student fees The complex will include basket ball and volleyball courts racquetball courts weight rooms locker facilities meeting and con ference space and office space for the Office of Recreational Sports Total project cost for the recrea tional sports center is expected to be approximately million The board also approved preli minary plans for improvements to the Aqua Sports Center the Agri culture Building the SWT Central Warehouse and Lavaca Hall and authorized project engineers to pre pare final plans and specifications and advertise for bids The improve ments are largely deferred mainte nance and are expected to cost less than The board appointed the architec tural firm of BakerAicklen Asso ciates Inc of Austin to design site work irrigation and landscaping at Elliott and Read Halls The regents also approved a new bachelors degree program in dance for SWT The proposed bachelor of dance degree would offer majors both in dance performance and dance with teacher certification The objectives of the dance degree will be to train educators capable of teaching a wide variety of dance styles and techniques to prepare students to enter graduate work and to train professionallevel dancers in Seventh film in TLC series will be shown The film One Woman or Two will be shown at Texas Lutheran College on March 12 as the seventh film in the colleges spring Interna tional Film Series The film in French with English subtitles will begin at in Room 120 of Langner Hail It will be free and open to the public This light comedy starring Sigourney Weaver Dr Ruth Westh eimer and French film star Gerard Depardieu is the story of a paleon tologist Depardieu who mistakes an advertising executive Weaver for the philanthropist Westheimer who is to fund his research The Hollywood Reporter stated Nutty chases mistaken identity and breezy dialogue abound in this French The film which was produced in 1985 and is 95 minutes in length will be introduced by Professor Wendy McCredie assistant profes sor of modern and classical lan guages and of English and Seguin artist Del Wieding They will also lead an optional discussion at the conclusion of the film The colleges International Film Series is a cocurricular series organized and funded by the cultur ual activities committee and the modern and classical languages department Sunset Lions set annual Easter Fest The Seguin Sunset Lions Club will hold its second annual Easter Fest Saturday March 23 from 9 to 11 at the McQueeney Lions Club Building on Hwy 78 three miles west of Seguin There will be food fun games and other entertainment with prizes donated by Schlitterbahn Sea World the San Antonio Zoo and many others Tickets are each Pictures can be made with the Easter regents to introduce legislation to the Texas Legislature to amend the current shuttle bus fee structure Under the existing agreement shuttle bus fee increases charged to students may not exceed per semester or per sixweek summer term The proposal would remove the limit on fee increases The Asso ciated Student Government at SWT has passed legislation approving the proposed change In a systemwide action the regents agreed to introduce legisla tion to amend the Texas Education Code to permit an increase in the student center fee collected by state universities The proposed legisla tion would raise the fee cap estab lished in 1979 from the current per long semester or per six week summer term to per semester and per summer ses sion Any increase in the fee would require approval in a student referendum A resolution honoring former regent and past board chairman Jack L Martin of Austin was passed by the board Martin who will receive SWTs Distinguished Alumnus Award March 9 left the board Feb 1 He was appointed by Gov Mark White in 1985 In other SWTrelated action the regents a fee schedule reflect ing collection of a recreational sports fee of per student in long semesters and per student for summer sessions beginning with the fall 1991 semester and authorized a statemandated tuition increase of per semester credit hour for non resident and foreign students for the 199192 and 199293 academic years an application fee of for the Physical Therapy Prog ram to cover materials postage and staff and faculty time involved in processing student applications to the program the current shuttle bus agreement with Laidlaw Transit Inc for two yers Authorized the university to par ticipate in the states LoneSTAR Energy Retrofit Program Under the agreement the state will loan SWT million to make various energy conservation improvements and the loan will be repaid through energy cost savings made possible by the improvements the university to issue a purchase order for to KW Construction Co of San Marcos for painting removal of car pet and installation of tile at College Inn work to begin on thc 4lh floor of the Kellam Build ing and the issuance of purchase orders for furniture and equipment outofcountry study requests for a course titled Field Methods in Cultural to be taught May 15June 3 in the states of Yucatan Tabasco and Chiapas Mexico and an archaeo logical
