Miles The New Mexican Gov Bill Richardson on Friday signed into law a taxrelief package that includes rebates he had sought and accelerated tax cuts he had fought The action clears the way for the state Taxation and Revenue Depart ment to begin mailing rebate checks next week to all New Mexico taxpay ers part of a Richardsonbacked plan to help ease the pain of higher gasoline and homeheating costs However Richardson said he would have preferred to wait until lawmakers convene a 30day session in January to address speededup incometax cuts for wealthier New Mexicans During this months special leg islative session Richardson initially opposed Senatebacked proposals to accelerate the alreadyenacted tax cuts But the governor Friday said higherthanexpected revenue projec tions mean New Mexico can lower the states top incometax rate this year and again next year Im now confident that we can afford these because of the very healthy projections that have been reported to Richardson 4 suing state department former coworker By Jason Auslander The New Mexican Four female state employees say a male former colleague caused them shame and embarrassment after he allegedly used a hidden camera to record them using a toilet last fall Now the women are suing the state of New Mexico the state Department of Trans portation and former coworker Ronald D Myers 57 in state District Court Lawenforcement officials have said Myers alleged actions dont violate New Mexico criminal laws as longas they dont involve minors But Priscilla Rael Mary Brenda Rael Pamela Henry and Erica Garcia
