The Associated Press ALBUQUERQUE Cannon Air Force Base was put on the chopping block Fri day as the Pentagon released its list of recommended base closures a severe blow to New Mexico that surprised the states political leaders and prompted a call for a unified fierce fight to save the baseandits nearly jobs If approved by Congress and President Bush the Pentagons list also would mean smaller losses for Holloman Air Force Base and White Sands Missile Range and a net gain for Kirtland Air Force Base The Pentagon spent a lot of time and evaluation on its realignment plan but in this case we genuinely feel they used the wrong facts the wrong criteria or they missed Sen Pete Domenici said during a tele phone news conference that included all five members ofNew Mexicos congres sional
