16yearold boy who said a long time Santa Fe boxing coach repeatedly molested him opened trial testimony against the man Wednesday in District Court Phillip Gurule 67 is being tried on four counts of criminal sexual contact of a minor and one count of attempted criminal sexual penetration of a minor This could be the first of two trials for Gurule who also faces separate moles tation charges involving the boys older brother now 22 Gurule is related to the brothers The boy testified he slept at Gurules house several times when he was 12 and 13 and Gurule touched his penis and tried to penetrate him while they were in bed I was shocked I didnt tell anyone because I was said the boy He said he didnt train with Gurule but he had enjoyed fishing and watch ing football games with the coach The boy said Gurule abused him about 10 to 20 times but he couldnt remember the exact number The boy said Gurule also tried to kiss him on the mouth but he pushed the man away The boy said he slept on a couch in Gurules bedroom and eventually Gurule asked him to come to his bed at night He said Gurule started fondling and masturbating him and would not talk to him the following day if the Richardsons two day trip to New Hampshire which included an over stuffed schedule of speaking engagements interviews and news conferences won him praise from many who heard him A typical comment came from Eric Drouart a profes sor qf business administra tion who heard a Wednesday breakfast speech by the New Mexico Democrat I was impressed by his bipartisan approach to solving the prob lems of education and secu Drouart said And he was very Richardson who claimed his trip officially had nothing to do with any presidential ambitions told anyone who asked that he is keeping his options open crater of the volcano west of Mexico City By MARK STEVENSON The Associated Press SAN MARCOS Mexico The Volcano of Fire has rumbled back to life with its strongest eruptions in 20 years spewing lava and ash clouds that had some res idents who remained in their homes Wednesday casting nervous glances at the peak The volcano which strad dles the line between Colima and Jalisco states 430 miles west of Mexico City has had six spectacular eruptions in the past three weeks The largest late Monday shot glowing lava three miles above the crater of the volcano and showered ash over the nearby city of revealed motive behind 2003 murder The Associated Press WACO Texas A for mer Baylor University basketball player pleaded guilty to murder Wednes day in the shooting death of a teammate in 2003 a slaying that sparked a huge scandal in the basketball program at the Baptist school Carlton Dotson 23 faces five years to life in prison in the slaying of Patrick Dennehy who had been missing about six weeks when his body was found in a field a few miles from the Baylor campus He had been shot twide in the head Dotson whose trial was to start Monday did not speak during the brief hearing other than one word answers to questions from Judge Ralph Strother Authorities have never revealed a motive for the murder of Dennehy 21 Patrick Dennehy Carlton Dotson Dotson did not enter into a plea agreement with prosecutors and District Attorney John Segrest said he was surprised Dotson pleaded guilty without the promise of a reduced sen tence Segrest said he and defense attorneys earlier had dispute The Associated Press ALBUQUERQUE San Ildefonso Pueblo and the Forest Service on Wednesday announced the settlement of a land claim the pueblo filed more than 50 years ago Under the proposal which must be approved by Congress and the Court of Federal Claims the Indian pueblo near Santa Fe would get million and the right to buy thousands of acres The case first brought in 1951 was the last pending litigation under the Indian Claims Commission Act of 1946 the Forest Service said That law involved hundreds of tribal claims Ratifying the settle ment would authorize land transactions affecting San Ildefonso and Santa Clara pueblos Los Alamos County and the Forest Ser vice The pueblos would be able to add land to their pueblos and the county would be able to protect its water wells
