word of a vacancy on the Supreme Court arrived Thursday morning at the White House A sealed envelope was on its way Friday But not until that envelope arrived in the hands of the Supreme Courts chief marshal the White House said Friday did the president or anyone on his staff know that it was Justice San dra Day OConnor who was stepping down not the ailing Chief Justice William Rehnquist whose new Mexican postage stamp as rac ist should read the beloved comic book on which it is based before they make judgments They dont have information Fox said in an exclusive interview with The Associated Press black activists and the White House on Thursday criticized the stamp featuring Memin Pinguin a sort of Jim Crowera image of a black child that has been a cartoon character since the
