abusers of terror suspects He also disclosed the White House was looking at trying to change the Geneva Conventions that pro tect prisoner rights Pressed at his confirma Father son sidebyside in same unit The Associated Press SILVER LAKE Kan During his 2003 tour in Iraq Maj Christopher Phelps sent home a picture from Bagh dad showing him standing in front of build ing and holding a handmade sign with six of his buddies He served 13 months in Vietnam and remembers fac ing mortar fire on his first day He left active duty in 1968 but later joined the reserves hitting 30 years total service in 1999 when retirement was required Kendall Phelps also became a teacher spending most of his career in Silver Lake where his home is across from the high school His decision after Sept 11 2001 to put his name on a list of retirees who wanted to return to active duty didnt surprise Principal Larry Winter He lives and breathes Winter said of Phelps feel ings for the Corps Christopher Phelps said Its at this Gon zales said But some people I deal with the lawyers indi cate maybe this is something we should look Sen Charles Schumer later urged Bush to consult Congress and he requested a congressional hearing My concern is not that these dis cussions are taking place but that they are taking place in secret behind closed doors with no outside Schumer wrote the Democrats and Republi
