Garcia The New Mexican Robbie Romeros older brother said that police are falsely accus ing him in the boys 2000 disap pearance to cover their own incompetence I think what the police are doing is using me as a Ronnie Romero 28 said Sunday His statement came a day after his mother Evelyn Romero said that police are seeking a grand jury indictment against Ronnie Romero and served her a sub poena to testify on Jan 26 Ronnie Romero said that his mother plans to file a civil suit alleging the Santa Fe Police Department wrongfully entered their home Friday when she was served the subpoena Santa Fe Police Chief Beverlv Lennen said Sunday she couldnt respond to potential litigation but she called Ronnie Romero a per son of strong interest in the boys disappearance Our only goal in this situation is to find justice for a 7yearold boy that disappeared and we believe to be Lennen said It is our job to speak for that little boy who cannot speak for himself Evelyn Romero also said the state Children Youth and Families Department took custody of her 16yearold son and 5yearold grandson and accused her of neglect Each child was sent to the homes of one of Ronnie Romeros brothers Ronnie Romero said In the interview Sunday Ron nie Romero said the custody issue hasnt been settled It dalles me they didnt take my lads but they took her he said Ronnie Romero who lives with his mother has a 2yearold child and a 3monthold child He said recent police maneu vers are spurred by the Romero familys effort to see the police case file in Robbies disappear ance Police have refused to share the file and a ruling is pending in state Supreme Court We feel thaf s why theyre doing Ronnie Romero said of his possible indictment and his mothers testimony before a grand jury The Supreme
