Please see PLAN Page A4 TRANSPORTATION GRIP project short of money Rising construction costs means not all proposed roads funded By Barry Massey The Associated Press A SL6 billion transportation program by Gou Bill Richardsons administration is running short of money because of rising construction costs and theres not enough financing for all the road proj ects that were supposed to be built The transportation plan called GRIP for Governor Richardsons Invest ment Partnership is helping pay for a commuter rail service proposed between Belen and Santa Fe As part of that project the state has agreed to buy almost 300 miles of rail line from Belen to southern Colorado for S76 million However Transportation Secretary Rhonda Faught said commuterrail costs arent to blame for the shortfall in financ ing for more than three dozen road proj ects that were authorized by the Legisla ture in 2003 Were going to be short on GRIP but its not going to be because of the Faught said in an Mayor Larry Delgado nominated Ann Yalman as Santa Fes municipal judge on Wednes day city councilors moved to postpone the appointment until they can interview the candidate Councilors delay vote until interview with municipal judge candidate By Tom Sharpe The New Mexican Mayor Larry Delgado on Wednes day nominated Ann Yalman a county probate judge and former federal magistrate as Santa Fes next munici pal udge But city councilors postponed a vote on whether to confirm the appointment until they have a chance to interview the 57yearold law yer next week Councilors said they want to discuss pretty straightforward Shed like for them to be able to live in their own home But Ruizs SlOanhour job as a WalMart cashier doesnt cover rent and all the bills she has to pay So for now her three children occupy half of a fourbedroom apartment A single man lives in the other two bedrooms He pays the water bill so that said Ruiz Id like to live alone with my children but we just cant Ruiz and her children are among the 40 or 50 people who attend Juntos los Miercoles Together on a weekly event at Cesar Chavez Elementary School for families like hers who have dif ficult living situations
