Gov. Mark Singel for the Pennsylvania democratic nomination for the Senate on tuesday in a race that tested and apparently proved the theory that so far this is a year for outsiders and women. Yeakel Defeated Singel by a 4-3 ratio according to preliminary results and will face sen. Arlen Specter who last fall played a leading role in the Clarence Thomas confirmation hearings. Specter easily beat challenger Stephen f. Freind in the Republican primary by 2-1. Quot we did it quot Yeakel told cheering supporters. Quot somebody said it could t be done.
