it elected miss Margie nor of Panola county the first woman senator for in the election of miss Cal to this responsible Posi there Are so Many worthwhile and political lessons to be observed that it seems Only fair to our state at this time to name a few of so Many have expressed much fear that the experience of our first woman governor would be a great Block in the Way of political Progress of Texas Whilo the former a governor of the state has declared that the defeat of his wife for reelection would set the women of Tho state Back fifty in the very face of both ideas and at the same primary ejection East Texas goes straight Forward and elects a woman to the what can such action indicate 1 first fall it seems to indicate that the old fashioned prejudice against women presence or Power in a political Posi Tion has and the men of East Are too big and top Broad to allow the misfortunes or mistakes of woman to stand in the Way of service another woman might Render her another the ejection of Margie Neal to Senate proves is loyalty to a Home woman for duties Well per Margiee Neul of did not Bob up she did even come she was brought out by her Home she did not offer herself a living sacrifice for the vindication of anything or she was not elected because of any bitter feeling toward anybody she was not a victim of some selfish scheme on the part of she did not run purely she was a woman and just wanted to find out if a woman could run and How mar Gie Neal won the election for the state Senate purely on efficiency and fitness for the service it and this fitness for such a Public ser vice is the result of years of faithful service in her own Community and beside she had been for a number of years a servant of the entire state As a member of the Board of trustees of our eight state teachers she is a woman of thorough education and Broad experience in human she has lived close to the everyday people and understands their heart throbs and their wishes and she understands their life and they know it and Are not afraid to Trust their interests in her she has been an unselfish Spir it in her Home Community As a Brief glimpse of her life will for years she was editor of her Home paper and motives were Al ways of the constructive she published her paper for the Good of her patrons and her entire county and the territory it sir was always on the Side of Justice and she stood for the Best inter ests of the the the the the school and the whole a few years ago she recognized the fact that greater diversity in farm ing would be a Blessing to her but she did not Start out to preach she wrote a Little play in which King Cotter was dethroned in Panola county and King pig and Queen Peanut were she planned a countywide agricultural fair and turned her play Over to the school children to be staged during the she let the children teach the of More pigs and peanuts and less Cotton in their Home county they proved to themselves the school advantages such a change would mean to All the Margie has always worked with the women of her through their Book club Tho county Library and county rest room were it took ten years to accomplish some of her dreams for the women of her Home but last fall the Little rest room of ten years ago and the Book club of ten years ago had grown into a county Library housed in a Beautiful two Story Brick Community Home for All the women and children of the the Flower show is another product of Panola county that has brought Beauty to every Home and More pleasure to All the and it was also fostered by this same Book club of which mar Gie Neal was a leading the Panola county federation of women clubs and the Panola Couney fair Are two other products of her heart and brain plus the cooperation of All her the Panola county fair is managed and put Over by Tho women of the and in All this work Margie Neal was always working for Tho Good of All the peo is it any wonder her Home folks thought her fit for the state Senate is it any wonder they voted for her and that there was no need of a second primary to Settle her place m Texas politics Thoy wanted Tho rest of the state to have the Bene and that they to Lecce her the first woman sen Ator Thev was no other reason but faithful find efficient service in the right it would be a notable thing if other women seeking the ii hot positions in the state and nation would study the Steps that Ltd Margie Xea to Tho state not to a bad thing if More of our men would study the stairs by which she climbed to one of the most responsible and honorable positions in state senator Neal earned her into the hearts she earned their and Confidence that sent her to the state and it is this same human interests of All the people that will make her one of the test Public servants in the Vople stat of Texas is indebted the East Texas voters for ejecting such a representative of Al the Peov pie to the Texas arid her beyond a doubt that our Texas voters recognize
