Velasco better than a land locked Security in wide the unequalled facilities for rail connection a vast tributary country wonder fully Fertile. Klasco 8ept. 3, 1891. Paily most rapid Are the changes that even one week brings Forth in this Center of activities. This great state of Texas and sister states As Well seem suddenly to have realized that the deep water port so Long looked for on the Gulf coast of Texas has at iat been found in this realization All kinds and conditions of men have Home Here desiring to see and deter mine for themselves. Of course the speculative spirit is rampant and some buy Only to Well again while the great majority thoroughly Fon Vinced of the permanent nature of the port improvements Are making investments for future business and shrewdly calculating where the Best business streets Aud Corners of the great City so both to grow Are Likely to be. It is not of these things that this letter is to treat but rather of the conditions surrounding the sea port itself. Previous letters have spoken specifically of deep water As a tact of the volume of River flowing through the jetties to the and the facilities for handling Commerce. In this letter attention is directed to rhe Security afforded vessels loading Aud unloading at this port to its advantageous at that Point where existing lines of railway can converge most readily and in the Center of a vast Region unsurpassed la the natural Fertility of its soil. I he location of this port five Miles up the River from its Mouth and of Banks never overflowed by tidal Waves or River Rise located a Stream unaffected to Gulf gales for Ever insures the vessels trading Here from damage by sea or storm while receiving or discharging cargo. Velasco is not on a Hay Shore Over which sweeping gales raise heavy seas nor is it situated on an Arm of the Gulf a wide Mouth opening to the sea and exposing it to the violence of the Gulf winds but some Miles from the Mouth of jetties them Selvea but feet apart up a deep Channel Between Well defined Banks la no place much farther apart than the jetties themselves. Once a vessel reaches the Mouth of the jetties and enters she is Safe and this Entrance is As easy and Natur Al As possible the jetties opening in the direction of the prevailing Gulf winds. All that a sense of absolute Security can do to in due shippers and ship masters to Clear for any port will Lead them to this newly created deep water port within the Brazos River. Once within the River Miles of commodious docks stretching Inland and along both sides of the River will await the ship master with every modern appliance for rapidly Dis charging freight and transferring it without breaking bulk to the Remot est railway station of this great West. The location of the port of Velasco reduces the difficulty of making port to a minimum and affords absolute Security to ship and cargo once the Mouth of the River is made. When commercial agents Are acquainted with these facts and have demonstrated with what ease and safety port can be made and cargo Dis charged and received Here these very advantages will speak loudly in its favor. Facilities for rail communication. Out of the world As those who have never studied the Lay of the land May consider Velasco it is none the less at the very door of the railway lines of the state As the following facts will show. Velasco As yet without any railway communication with the out Side world though it will not be in sixty Days from Date is Only Twenty Miles from the tracks of the International and great Northern at Alva. A construction of 82 Miles would bring the hanta be Road to the Mouth of the Brazos. The Southern Pacific lines Are Only 42 Miles away at Pierce Junction. The Arkansas pass lines Are about 7o Miles Distant and Survey of route is being made. The m. K. This he expressly promised to do and then Caa Aully questioned me on my departure. I need not say that i who avoid Strong language on trivial occasions was not guilty of the expressions he ascribed to me. But other remarks and statements he has reported falsely and inverted by. However let me apologize for him. During the Cincinnati riots the mob failing to catch the murderer who had just been lightly sentenced turned toward the jury and sought out a Long tall personage an ignorant grocery Man if i remember his escape. A Wise acre in the crowd to appease their disappointment exclaimed what do you want with Long Tom anyway he is too Tali to have any any one who knows my reporter will understand the application. Idiocy is inexcusable when it has a Organ to inflict itself upon the Public and both the idiot and the Organ Are then Crimin ally responsible. But what can you expect of a paper too Tiggard to for a respectable amount of press Dis patches which tills its columns with the Meriest trash of cheap plate mat Ter notoriously steals its editorials and whose Only lucidity in that line an occasional shriek like of to the Llano on to the i make this mild Aud dignified reply Here knowing that that paper will publish Only sterner stuff Aud Toug her if any reporter is Here prevent who wishes to publish this reply verbatim the whole lot know nothing of him meet me out Side and giving him a copy in thanks to him for the service he renders me in the publication by showing that though weak in health i am still Strong enough to fight my own. I shall gladly sign my name to thin. Yours very respectfully Moses the Valley secure Vienna sept. Days of Sunshine has averted the threatened disaster in the Valley of the Drave.
