Thursday May 6, 1886. The times tirade. The old adage a whom the gods would destroy they first make a never had a More fitting illustration than in the screed of the times in its yesterdays Issue in which referring to the action of the typographical Union it says docs it not seem a Little strange thut the chief engineers of this movement against the times belong to the Light office. Tile editor and Foreman of thut paper and the Foreman so Friend Quot Are running the scheme. The times Lins been cutting into the lights subscription list and or. Newcomb is going to Start a new paper. Something desperate must Lee done. Hence this game but it is blocked. The times wilfully deliberately coolly and malicious utters an untruth when it says that the editor of tub Light is running the movement against the times. The editor of tub Light has no reference to the times in its relations to the typographical Union and the columns of tub Light Are in evidence. The Light has no reference to the subject beyond printing the Assembly resolutions endorsing the typographical Union and this without comment. The Light has no attack upon the times but has kept profoundly silent concerning the whole matter deeming the course of the times sufficiently disgracing to the press fraternity of the City without giving unnecessary publicity to its disreputable methods. Neither the Foreman of the Light nor the Foreman so a Friend have any authority to speak for the Light and for their action As members and Oili cers of the typographical Union the Light is in no Way responsible. Being a Union office the Light Isatu rally in sympathy with the typography Cal Union in its War against a rat printing office but that sympathy has been suppressed and in no instance has it been allowed to find utterance in the columns of the Light. In making this gratuitous and utterly unprovoked at tack upon the Light the times has simply revealed the bitterness of its own heart the malice of its own nature the untruthfulness of its own mind and the ingrain meanness of the soul of the Man who penned the paragraph above cited. As to All else contained in that paragraph the Light has nothing to say. So Long As it issues its numbers regularly pays its Hills promptly lives up to its obligations As a Union office and keeps its oaths inviolate it can afford to pass in silence All reference to its business. It has not however As yet been reduced to the extremity of under bidding Union labor on the plea of poverty nor of cutting prices below living rates in order to secure patronage. It has always esteemed the labourer worthy of his hire has a1 ways been wiling to pay a fair Day wages for a fair Days work and unsubsidized by either municipal or state interests manages to pay its Way and preserve its self respect. When it can no longer pay the prices for labor that All other reputable printing offices in Texas pay it will not ask its employees to lose $1000 a year the keep the machine running hat will gracefully take Down its sign and discontinue business. Tub Arvelter Zeitung of Chicago seems to have been the head Center of the socialist faction. The dynamite found in the printing office was taken to the Lake and exploded. Twenty five printers were arrested charged with murder and bail refused for their appearance. The Waco examiner is Fertile in conundrums. There is a Richness a As the renowned Dick swivelled would say in some of the situations presented by the a age of the Brazos truly refreshing. Speaking with reference to major Boones candidacy the examiner evolves the following truly Dolphin utterance the people of Kho whole state Foci a deep Appling Lutenent in Lite political fortunes of major if. H. Boone Aud All Hope that the people of the District will Honor themselves by Oleo to us him for Congress by a immense majority. The whole state la supposed to include for All practical purposes the people of Boones District and if the a people of the whole state take a a deep and abiding interest in major Boones political fortunes of course the people of his whole District must take such deep and abiding interest. Such being the Case where is the room for doubt or fear concerning that gentleman selection the ratiocination of the examiner lands him in Congress by the a deep and abiding interest of the whole District and yet the examiner merely expresses a Hope of his election. Is there after All a Subtle irony in the examiners words and does Bartow intimate that the whole people of Boones District take a deep and abiding interest in keeping him at Home verily the conundrum a amp bit. The express suggests the name of professor Bote for Many years City superintendent of schools in san Antonio As a proper Man to place at the Bead of the department of Public instruction in Texas. The Light heartily endorses the suggestion in the full Assurance that professor Rote would leave his Mark upon the Public school system of Texas and approve in the administration of the office the Wisdom of his selection fsr so honorable a position. The Brooklyn Magazine has been passing around the conundrum when should girls marry Louisa m. Alcott retorts that the question a when Shalt our Young men marry a 1b a much More important question. Between the two society will find outfall it will Ever know about it for it May be accepted As pure matrimonial gospel that our Young men will marry about the same time that our girls will and the girls will be wedded on time with our Young men. This Way of settling the question reminds one of the farm hand who having finished his fall work wag thus interrogated by his employer a Well Tim and where did you leave the plow a a a thure sire and i left it with Hie a but Tim where did you leave the Harrow a a Bedad thin i left that with the a yes but you Blockhead where did you leave them both a a both is it How stupid yes Are Shore i left them both the Call for the meeting of the Chicago vigilant was induced by the discovery of considerable quantities of dynamite in the Headquarters of the socialists. A a a the pure democracy Are going Bank on the present administration in a Way that is neither childlike nor Bland. A a Brick Pomeroy by whom the whole democratic party at one time swore and whose died in the Wool a Bourbo nismo one questions is among the number who rises to explain concerning the present condition and future doom of the old barrel party. The Louisville courier journal has not been backward in coming Forward to speak its Little piece concerning the nears ebs of the last ditch. The utterances of both these sources of democratic knowledge these fountains of perennial inspiration for the a Sun terrified Are Good Reading. They contain solid food for reflection and quite squarely intimate that the mugwumps have not been Means of Grace for the salvation of the doomed democracy. The conclusion of a a Brick is that a three years More of Cleveland sin and the democratic party can be covered with a Buffalo Robe and left for the Hearse. The courier journal think that though the party still lives it is Best to prepare for the inquests As mrs. Partington would diagnose it As having a two buckles on its lungs Brown Cree Turs in its Throat and mugwumps in its stomach. In Dakota where Coal is scarce and Wood nil the Farmers Are trying flax As a fuel quite successfully. A ton of lax is considered More valuable for heating purposes than a ton of soft Coal. In Minnesota pressed Hay is used for the same purposes and is said to yield fair results. It is much cheaper than the flax but does not Emit so much caloric. In some sections of the great Northwest in years of great Corn abundance and exceedingly Low prices ears of Corn Are burned for fuel. There is beat enough in a Good Bushel of dry Corn to warm sheol and in perfectly air tight stoves with fire Clay linings Corn can be economically and satisfactorily used As fuel. The one necessity is to Deaden the draft As the process of combustion is very rapid. The democracy have fixed july 4, As the Day for the Celebration of the nuptials of Grover and miss Folsom. There is nothing to Abow that the recent Railroad strikers had any connection with the Chicago riots. Chicago has been the Headquarters of american socialists or More correctly speaking anarchists for some time. The papers have frequently Given specimens of their inflammatory speeches and incendiary harangues but in the Freedom of speech enjoyed in this country no attempt was to suppress them. Now that these opinions have been concreted into overt acts subversive of Law order and All social system it is time to show by indisputable proofs that these designing and dangerous men cannot introduce their european tactics of destruction into this country. Those who have sinned without Law have suffered without Law those who have sinned against Law must suffer by the Law. Confusion runs riot in Chicago and Call was in one of the yesterday evening papers for a meeting of vigilance committee no. 41. The response of or. Hoxie to the order of the general executive committee raising the Southwest strike is do red to the Point Manly and in Accord Anoe with the terms of agreement entered into Between messes. I purchased in this City a package of prof.
