Lester who lives at no. 200 North Concho Street Corner of Franklin Square had occasion to be very Wakeful on account of having a sick child. He arose and started Down stairs after something for the child and was astonished to suddenly come face to face with a Large and powerful burglar who was coming stealthily up the stairs. Lester was in his stocking feet and did not make any noise and the burglar was equally astonished at being met when he least expected to have a meeting Lester grappled with the Man he says but the fellow proved too powerful for him and threw him off and nearly threw him Down stairs. Then the burglar was allowed to leave the premises by or. Lester in safety. No articles in the House below or above were missed today and in is supposed the burglar had just entered the House and was preparing to make a big haul when he was the singers or. J. B Breeding gives some very interesting facts respecting american coinage. Nudism apology is the science of coins and Metal in relation to history and is a most interesting one. To those who Are Learned in the science coins become chapters in history and each Bas its Story of the past. By them men see the Progress of Art As evidenced by the coins themselves and comparing the crude coins of the ancients with the artistic coins of the present period. Or. J. B. Breeding son of or. Breeding is a Young but very intelligent numismatist and he Bas got a Nice collection of the oils of All nations. The Light reporter had the pleasure of looking Over these coins and of learning somewhat of their history. In conversation with or. Breeding As regards the coins of our country the Young gentleman said Quot the first Gold coins that were coined in this country were the five and ten prices of 1795. These Are rare now and Are quoted at a Hundred per cent Premium but Are unattainable even at that figure. The rarest Gold Coin is the $20 piece of 1849, of which Only one specimen remains and that is in the Philadelphia mint. The first Silver Dollar was coined in 1793, but the rarest specimen is the coinage of 1804,which realizes from $500 to $1,000 according to it state of preservation. Half dollars were first made in 1793 and Are divided into two classes the one bearing the Liberty head the other the figure of Columbia a la Brittania. For the former except rare specimens collectors place a Premium on them from 25 to 50 per cent. The first Quarter was struck in 1796, and Are Worth $1 now. The quarters of 1823 and 1827 Are rated at from $5 to $15, being very rare. Twenty cent pieces were coined in 1875. And continued until 1878. Those of 1877 and August 1878, Are valued at from $ i to $?T2. Dimes were first struck in 1706, and Are divided into a Liberty headed and a a columbian specimens in the same Way As the half dollars the former being at a Premium. Half dimes were issued from l793 to 1873. The Nio to valuable is that of 1802, which is Worth $50. Of the lower coins a two cent of 1872 is Worth from 25 to 50 Cerns. The first one cent was coined in 1793, and those of 1799 and 1804 Are Worth from $2 to $10. The half cents from first coinage 1793, until 1857 All command a Premium but that of 1796 is valued at from $5 to $10. There Are Many Fine private collections in this country the largest being that of j. H. Grasper of Bryon Ohio who who has no less than 1,709 Good specimens of ancient and modern coinage. The Best coins in the world Are those of the United states great Britain France and Germany both for workmanship and value. Of course the prices i name Are their value to collectors at which they meet with Good Sale but it must never be forgotten that the value of coins Are based always upon their rarity and the state of their preservation. Then in a body two by two carrying their singing books Aud lighted chinese lanterns they proceeded stealthily to the House of their president on want Nueva Street. There after serenading that gentleman they took him along in their March until or. Berg Mann a Saloon on South Alamo St., was reached when the boys were invited to partake of refreshments there after their Long and wearisome ? March. Two songs were Sung there then the line of March and the chinese lanterns were taken up and a return was made to a belter Verein where after a speech from the president and several Good songs interspersed with refreshments a pleasant Bour was spent. Then the Hail was deserted for the residence of their musical director or. The Helvetia binding society Durn Bering about Twenty five members marched Down to Bergmann a Saloon St night and arrived there shortly after the lieder Kranz had left.
