At new Orleans on Friday the boys stayed Over at the request of colonel j. B. Richardson of the Washington artillery who is an Uncle of lieutenant e. W. Richardson and of private Peroy Richardson of the Belknap. They were escorted in Honor to the armory of the Louisiana buies and were Well entertained at 8 of clock the Belknap put up an exhibition Drill which was closely and critically watched. The times Democrat in criticising the Drill says a in the manual they were simply perfect. When by numbers but few individual errors were noticed. In company wheels Wheeling by fours in single and double ranks la right and left by file they moved with a precision Seldom seem. Then company wheels in Quick and double time were magnificent and were frequently after this the boys were entertained at a banquet and then attended a Ball Given in their Honor at which the principal ladies and citizens were present. In the morning the Belknap were escorted to the sleepers. Beyond cheering at various places nothing important occurred until their arrival at Houston. There the boys were met cheered and congratulated by the Light guards and Many prominent citizens and pressed to stay for an entertainment that had been arranged for them but they were compelled to decline the hospitality with thanks. Yesterday morning about 7 30 the Belknap rifles arrived in the City and were received by the marshals of the reception committee the knights of pythias uniform rank and the Excelsior guards. The firemen were to have been present but failed owing to a misunderstanding. After forming the procession marched to the Belknap armory via Avenue o. Or. John a. Fraser a and judge Simpsons residences on that Avenue were prettily decorated and the boys were cheered heartily As they passed. When the procession arrived at the armory a Large crowd assembled on the Balcony sent up enthusiastic cheers. Then salutes were exchanged and the company marched into their armory and broke ranks. Friends flocked around the boys and gave Hearty congratulations cheers were Given for the Belknap our honorable competitors the san Antonio rifles the knights of pythias. Capt. Green and the Excelsior guards. Tile armory was most tastefully decorated by the ladies and they were conspicuous in the Welcome of the pets after congratulations friends got hold office boys and marched them off to breakfast. Tonight the Belknap rifles will be received at Turner Hall by their friends. The boys will March in at 9 p. In. In full dress uniform except that Caps will be substituted for helmets.
