Muir cashier. Safe Deposit vaults. Who got the Cash ? a Stockman claims have Host $1,000 at a lodging House. About a week ago a Stockman and Stock trader named Elkin living in Lavaca county put up late one night at the White elephant lodging House conducted by . J. T. Payne and arose Early the next morning telling the proprietor that he had lost his coat containing a Large sum of Money some $1,900. He seemed rather unconcerned about the loss. He was further questioned about his loss when it was ascertained that he had deposited $85 of the Money in a Saloon and did no think it Worth the while Deposit the other $1,900. With this he left the House and proceeded by the next train Wilson county where he informed . Geo. Neil of the loss. . Neil who owned about $1,000 of this amount came san Antonio at once and investigated the matter. The facts of the Case seem be that . Neil and a Nephew whose name could not be Learned authorized . Elkin sell some mules for them. He went Gonzales where it is said he sold the mules a near relatives of his and then came san Antonio. He found the Bauks i closed and consequently deposited but 585 of the Money in Alberto a Saloon. That night he went into a gaming room and played considerably however coming out Winner. He went the White elephant lodging House about 2 30 a. In. That morning and left the place before Daybreak when he complained the proprietor of having been robbed in the House. . Payne at once inst tuned search but without Avail. Everything was in apparent order and every body in his place. . Elkin owned but one fourth of the Money lost a Nephew of Neil a owned the other fourth and . Geo. Neil the remain no half. It was stated in a dispatch this morning that the local police had been notified which is not the Case As neither the police nor the detectives have been informed of the robbery by any of the parties interested. . Nell however is pushing his investigation in a quiet manner hoping finally unravel the matter. The k. P. Celebration at Austin. The members of san Antonio division knights of pythias returned from Austin this morning and report having had an enjoyable visit. The new division was instituted yesterday with 36 charter members. The two divisions gave a handsome Parade headed by the Austin band a 5 of clock and were much admired by a Large crowd of ladles and gentlemen As they marched up the avenues. The divisions were photographed at the capital Hill. The Ball and banquet was attended by Over three Hundred ladies and gentlemen the sir knights being in full dress uniform. The grand March was pronounced the finest Ever seen in Austin. Z. The supper was prepared by austins Best caterer and was voted Fey All a no. I. The whole entertainment was a most Complete Success socially As Well As financially. Quite a neat sum was realized for the Benefit of the local ledges widow and orphans fund pythian notes. Hewitt died at his residence on Acequia Street after an illness of Days from typhoid pneumonia. The funeral will take place tomorrow Atte Quoon at 3 of clock from the residence under the auspices of the Catholic knights of America of which order deceased was a member in the St. Mary a Blanch of that order. Deceased was always a resident of this City and was a popular san Antonio boy. At the time of his death he was 35 years six months and seven Days of age. He was the son of the late judge Hewitt whose family is one of the oldest and most prominent in the City. His beloved Consort who survives him was the daughter of the lace Enoch Jones at one time mayor of this City. There Are several Brothers and Sisters who now mourn the death of their brother.
