In keeping with a Campaign inaugurated by the american red Cross National Headquarters to engage in a new Field in addition to the fight against traffic perils and those of Industry the Racine chapter is holding an annual Home inspection Campaign by which t is enlisting the Aid of All Public and parochial school children. In Racine the Campaign is in charge of the chapter s fire and Home committee headed by r. E. Browne. First emphasis is to be placed on accidents in the Home and National leaders in the red Cross believe that the most effective Way is through the schools. Nation wide problem. A the Home Accident problem is nation wide in the handbook for the new safety drive says. A Only by nation wide concerted attack can satisfactory results be obtained. The task cannot be accomplished in a month but May require years of continuous Effort to bring about any considerable reduction in Home accidents. A accidents cannot be eliminated entirely but they have been reduced in Industry and they can be reduced in the Home. By persistent Effort Over a period of years the Accident fatality and injury rates in Industry have been materially reduced. By applying the same concerted Effort in the Home the Accident fatality and injury rate there likewise can be substantially reduced. A the first objective of the Home Accident prevention program must be to make the general Public aware of the Accident problem its loss of life and tragic waste. People must be taught what Are the common practices and habits that cause accidents. Will study hazards. A the second objective will be to study hazards unsafe practices and habits in individual Home find ways to eliminate them and i through first Aid training prepare a the occupants of the Homes to Deal with accidents when they do education against the causes of accidents in the Homes will be carried on through the schools Par ent teachers association and Community clubs it was announced it the local red Cross Headquarters. This Survey was obtained by soliciting confidential reports from 275 cities through its local real estate boards. It finds that the Factor of a favourable mortgage Supply is of outstanding importance As affecting any appreciable amount of new Home building. Many communities still report that the Borrower who needs More than 50 per cent of the appraised value of a piece of property has difficulty in obtaining it. Realty prices up. Apartment buildings have shown the most general change in space absorption. Actual shortage of apartment units is now reported by 43 per cent of the cities whereas six months ago Only 29 per cent so reported. Money Supply interest rates. The completely changed condition in real estate Money is shown by the fact that 67 per cent of the cities now report persons with Money looking for mortgage investments whereas in Only 21 per cent of the cities Are persons with Security looking for Loans. Interest rates Are falling in 47 per cent of the 275 cities reporting Are steady in 50 per cent Are rising in Only 3 per cent of the cities. It is recognized among architects and realtors that there is a general interest in new houses in Racine.
