Putnam, News Ward, News Coates File Duggan Show A new concept in "spec- taculars" was tried last March when "America Pauses for Springtime" used videotape to put entertainment stars in natural backgrounds for a cross-country musical tour. It was moderately successful and was "panned" by only one national columnist (who "pans" Tonight on (2) at 8 "Amer- ica Pauses for the Merry Month of May" with the help of Burgess Meredith as host, Art Carney, Marian Anderson, Carol Hancy, Larry Blyden, Connie Russell, The Four Aces, Connie Towers, Molly Bee, Russell Arms and Teddy (son of Mickey) Rooney. (Teddy is all alone at Pacific Ocean Park and is also fea- tured in Life Magazine this week.) In putting this show to- gether the producers ran into some problems. New Orleans is the scene of Connie Rus- sell's version of "The Saints :ome Marching In" and crews Adventures of Char- lie Chan, J. Opener has them being hijacked by fake policemen and fighting desperately for a cargo they don't even have aboard. An enigmatic stagecoach robber, known only as "the little 'gives Jim Hardie of "Tales of Wells Fargo" (4) a run for his money. It takes a clever trap to catch the bandit. Rafael Campos guest-stars as El Diablo, a bandit exert- ing an evil influence on a young Mexican whom Vint Bonner of "The Restless Gun" (4) sets out to save. Vint join El Diablo's band and is involved in murder. MATS is the Military Air Transport Service and "Ad- venture Tomorrow" (13) takes "Gunn" has been renewed fo fall. The Boston Pops Orchestra conducted by Arthur Fiedle plays for "The Voice of Fin stone" (7) and guest soloist are Dorothy Kirsten an Thomas L. Thomas. P.M.
