It is a far cry from the atmos- phere of a few years ago, when the United Nations held the Franco regime to be a menace to peace. Today the United States has some of its best forward bombing bases in Spain. His gift to each employe s a 'reproduction of a painting of a mountain in the 'Canadian Rockies that is named for him. The picture of Mt. Eisen- hower was given out at a reception for the of people who work at the executive mansion, from cooks and maids and gar- deners to top officials. Mrs. Eisenhower, wear- ing a gay Christmas red dress, diamond earrings sparkling in the lights of a tree, received the staff in the White House East Room. -Eisenhower, of course, is still overseas. ,The'White House person- nel went, by for a hand- shake with Mrs. Eisenhow- er, then they received their paintings.
