SEveral Cardinals have taken leave of the Pope to return home, and ' the Cardinal d' Ejhtss fet out two day s ago for Venice, and other Courts of Italy, with a private Commiflton From his Mafter. That Cardinal had a conference of three hoars with the Pope, on the prefenc juncture of Affairs, mi acquainted him that a good body of French"Troops were embarked in the Harbours of Provence for Final, to .march from thence to the Dutchy of Milan, in order to oppofe the defigns of the Emperor, but that his moft Chrifrian Majefty had commanded him to allure his Holiiiefs, that he will be always ready to hearken to any reafonable Expedient that fhall be offered for the prelervation of the Peace of Europe, and in particular for the Tranquility of Italy. The Pope held fome days ago a Congregation of State, wherein, as 'tis laid, it was relblvtd' co reinforce the Garrifon of Fetrara, and repair a Billion of Fort Uri'mo^ fituated between Boh-nla and Modena. Upon advice that the King of th� Romans is to command the Imperial A rmy in Italy, rhe Pope has fenc him a Brief to divert his Majefty from rhat d^iign ; and in the mean time there is a Negotiation on foot for a Marriage, between the new. King of Spain and one of the Emperors Daughters ; but if fhe fime does not fucxeed, 'tis faid that Prince will marry the Princefs of Savoy, the better to engage the Court of Turin in the defenceof the AtfZa-tieze. 'tis faid the King of Spain will oblige Kimfelf to aiG.Lt the Puke of Savoy, for It-conquering the Kingdom of Cyprus. The Venetian Ambaffador has frequent: conferences with our Minifters, about the motioiss of the Germans, and notwithftanding the Fren;h and Spaniards give out, that the Republicfe will oppofe the Emperor, there is no certain advice that they have made any fiich Declaration. Venice, January 14. Cardinal a" Ejirets is hourly expected here from Rome, on his way to Florence, where the. Cardinal of Medicis arrived fome days ago to aflilt in a 'conference which is to be held there qn the prefent poirure of affairs. In the mean time the Sieur Audifra Envoy of France to the Duke of Mantua, is gone to Modena, Parma and Milan, with a Commiffion from his Mafter. They have already cleanfed the Ditches, and brought water into it from a neighbouring River, and feveral pieces of Cannon are fending thitherwards to be placed on the Ram-^ parts. General Muttmi has received orders to repair with atyfpeed into the Frioul towards Palma, to ob-fervetbe motions of the Germans, and provide for the fecurity of that Province. Thefe commotions, and the difficulties our Minifters meet with at C��-fiantinople for the prolongation of the Truce with the lurks, makes our Senare very uneafyr and they are now taken up about ways and means for raifing money to put our felves in a good poftu re of defence; They talk of adm itting feveral perfons into tfte body of the Nobility, and creating feveral new Procurators of St Marc, upon paying the fame fummsof money which were- paid during the late War on the like occafion. Genoa, January 8. The Republick has granted paflagefor uooo men of rhe Freiidh Troops defign-ed for the Milanese*, and they are daily expected in thefe parrs. The Senare has admitted ihro the Body of our Nobility, the Brother and Nephews of the Pope.and their poftetfty,thcRspublick ofVenict having ' done the fame. The Galleys commanded by the Duke of Turfis are to fail for Catalonia, to bring fome Troops from thence deligned for the Milanese, They write from Milan, that the Prince of Vaudemont and Count Tejfe continue their conferences for putting that Country into a good pofture of defence. A Commiflary is arrived it Final, to receive the French Troops, and 'tis faid that the Count Tejfe has brought with him Bills of Exchange for one million of Crownsfor the fubfiftance of the fame. The Duke of Savoy \s providing his Places with Ammunition and other neceilaries for their fecurity, and we hear that Court inclines more and more to a Neutra* lity. Vienna, January 15. Count Trautmanfdorf is goU'i Poft from hence to Swijferland and the Country af the Grifent, to t3ke care of the Emperors intereft ii that Country, and crofs the Negotiations of the French, Spanifh, and Venetian Minifters. They continue to fay, that the King of the Romans will command in perfon the Army defigned for Italy, or that which is to aft upon the Rhine. Prince Lewis of Baden arrived hereon the nth inftant, and has received the compliments of the General Officers, and other Perfons of Quality. The Conferences between that Prince and other Generals, are to begin in few days. We hear the Hereditary Countries have granted to the Emperor 34 millions of Dutch Florins. The Troops which are ordered to march into Italy, confifl of 19300 Foot, (Sooa Horfe and 4000 Dragoons. New iwfrrucrions are fent to our Minilter in the Country ofthe Grifons, rhat he may be ready to appear in their Affembly on the ijth inftant. Ctttningsberg, January 18.
