High Bluff takes Over school land by Shane Gibson Central Plains Herald Leader the High Bluff Community Centre has been fundraising a lot lately. Since purchasing the tract of land the High Bluff school sat on a Little More than a year ago the group has been Busy dividing up the land into separate lots and plans to sell them to raise Money for the Community Centre. Garry Brown chairman of the High Bluff Community Centre Board of directors explains that when the school which was built in 1965, closed Down several years ago the Community Centre saw an Opportunity. When the school Board closed it it sat there in limbo for about a year and we were kind of interested in it said Brown. We went after it but for some reason the school Board seemed to think they had other interests in it i think they wanted to sell it. We persevered stuck with it and said we really wanted it and in the end the school Board sell it so they turned it Over to the Rural municipality of Portage la Prairie who in turn sold it to us for $ 1. Portage pm Reeve Toby Trimble said Selling the land to the Community Centre made sense not Only for their fundraiser but for the entire municipality As Well. Its a Community organization that is using it to fundraiser said the Reeve. And if there Are four or five new residences in the area then ultimately Well Benefit through taxes. The High Bluff Community Centre plans to Divide the land into five 67 by 33 metre lots provide each lot with Hydro and water and build an Access Road Between them. The lot with the school on it has been purchased by a family from High Bluff who will leave it where it is and use it As a Home. See Money Page 2
