Com published by Bowes publishers limited the empathy Muscles of people in the Portage la Prairie area have been stretched and exercised in recent weeks. Just think Back to the past two weekends when hundreds of people turned out to help the Mcfarland and catch Way families in their search for their missing daughters in and around Portage. Those volunteers were acting out of empathy they put themselves in the place of those families and that led them to walk a mile and Many More in their shoes. The people of this Region have the Opportunity to do that again in a different but no less significant Way. This one is an Extension of the wave of yellow ribbons that appeared in the Region in september in preparation for the return of our soldiers from their tour of duty in Afghanistan. As grateful As we Are that we did not lose any of our soldiers during their recent tour of duty to Afghanistan although at least one Portage was injured we must also recognize the sacrifice of those who have died in that conflict with the Taliban. The empathy Felt locally for the families whose loved ones were overseas can Lead to a clearer perspective among us of what it would have been like if one of those soldiers had been killed by a Bullet or Roadside bomb. That and movies such As the recently released pass Hendele now in theatres can Lead us to a better understanding of the sacrifices made and losses Felt in previous world conflicts. And All of that should Lead us to put a Little More Effort into commemorating those sacrifices and losses on remembrance Day. People who dwell in sadness for too Long can grow callous towards it. Or they sometimes say there is so much other sadness in the world and More pressing issues in which to involve themselves. But the Central Plains people have put such an Effort into their yellow ribbons. They have shown they have a heart for Canadas Brave men and women in uniform. Lets focus on that and take time on remembrance Day to remember those who died in defence of this country democracy and Freedom. Larry Hill Cwb Board chairman poverty issues dont matter much Little importance was Given to poverty issues by the conservative government before and after the recent elections. It seems like each time we address such issues harpers government is on defence or uncomfortable. I believe conservative governments like harpers but also organizations like the world Bank and if tend to minimize the extent of poverty. It is naturally a question of also minimizing the damages resulting from our economic system to prove instead its efficiency even if facts and poverty data prove How this system truly generates poverty and inequalities around the world. The goal is to convince Rich countries citizens the measures in place gradually eliminate poverty at Home or elsewhere in the world. With their consciousness Well asleep How easy it becomes to exclude the fight against poverty from priorities and to slowly focus on military issues and assistance to Large companies. Its easy As Long As citizens like you and me dont speak up. Bruno Marquis Gatineau que. Your voice counts in the Cwb
