A native of Boston she was bom into an abusive household and entered Foster care Al an Early age. By 19, she was a pregnant High school dropout. The birth of her daughter was a turning Point for Benjamin. She got a Job w Ith the department of social services keeping runaway kids in the system. In her free time she returns to the projects where she grew up in an attempt to steer the local kids in the right direction. Though Kate identifies with the Quot trial by choir Quot teens on Many Levels because of her own rough past her approach sometimes backfires and drives them away. Viewers Don t just see the ins and outs of the choral direction. Cameras follow the kids into their neighbourhoods where drugs and violence Are rampant. Another kid talks about being in a mental institution after trying to kill somebody. Even in a group of fellow troubled kids some of the participants feel like no one understands them. Johnathan a so used to Street life he has a difficult time working within the group. Kyles is used to working with truly talented vocalists but some of the kids Hadnot really Sung before. Poe. The groups self proclaimed a Metal struggles with hitting the notes but is committed to seeing it out. The teenagers reactions to Kyles vary. One Young lady thinks he a sexy while others think he a just too Tough on them. But when the kids finally see him in action at Bostons renowned Morningstar Baptist Church where he a the minister of music they re amazed and finally impressed. Revived with a new sense of Trust in their Leader the kids go Forth with the project with a new enthusiasm.
