On aug. 18, Reeve de Stroeder announced he plans to seek the progressive conservative party nomination in the Riding of Ste. Rose following incumbent la Glen Cummings decision to retire from politics. Stroeder 53, said he decided to run after receiving encouragement from several supporters. If nominated Stroeder wants to work on a variety of issues. He wants recent provincial Job cuts in Neepawa and Gladstone reversed. The cuts were announced earlier this year As part of a provincial services centralization initiative. The cuts involved transferring approximately 19 ministry of transportation positions from Neepawa and Minnedosa to Portage la Prairie. Also affected were four water stewardship jobs that went from Gladstone to Neepawa a. Stroeder also wants to see a provincial flood Protection program established. He added health care is a critical Issue for the Riding. He said there is a need to develop adequate personal care facilities As Well As to address a looming doctor shortage in the Riding especially in Neepawa. Quot we have to make sure that programs Are in place to not Only attract doctors to our area but to make sure that they stay Here and maybe that Means increasing the level of service Quot Stroeder said. He also wants to see improvements made to transportation infrastructure in the Riding. Stroeder decided to seek the pc party nomination after Cummings announced on aug. 16 he will not run in the next election which is expected within the next 12 months. Cummings believes the tories stand a Good Chance of winning the election so he Felt it was in the party s Best interest for him to leave sooner rather than later.
