Israelis Sough Asylum in Jordan

Neture Karta Leader ArrestedJERUSALEM (WNS)— Rabbi Amram Blau, leader of the NetureKarta (Guardians of the City), extremist religious group, and 11 ofhis pupils were arrested last week following a clash with police whohad come to search the Meah Sh’arim quarter of this city for girlswho allegedly failed to register for national service. The police hadrounded up a large group of alleged evaders when a group of sev eral hundred men and women, under Rabbi Blau’s leadership, began a demonstration and attempted to release the detained youths. Additional police came to disperse the demonstrators and some 100 youths were finally arrested. The Neture Karta have refused to recognize the authority of the Israel Government, and in early State days, some of them sought asylum In Jordan.
