James la Cek an office in Towanda and the opening of bids were among the items of business handled by the Bradford county commissioners at their business meeting on wednesday. In return for the commissioners favor of signing the Dairy month proclamation. Ronald Reagan who chairs Dairy promotional activities in Bradford county presented each member of the Board with a to shirt which states a a in a always in the mood for milk a a and some other materials related to the Dairy Industry. A others present to witness the proclamation signing were the newly crowned Bradford county Dairy Princess Yonna Taylor Terri Madigan co chairman of this years Dairy pageant and Tom Maloney assistant county Extension agent a two year lease agreement was approved Between the county and Pennsylvania department of the Bureau of forestry which establishes a new office for District forester James Lacek in the basement of the fourth Street Annex building on fourth Street in Towanda. This remodeler office space was previously the site of the communications Center the annual lease fee is $1879 the commissioners noted they had received and accepted the resignation of James Allen who has served As the county a maintenance director for about the past five years. Allens last Day of work w As May 23 commissioner chairman Marilyn Bok said Allen has accepted another position that Post being with the Sequoia Pacific voting machine company. This is the firm which purchased the assets of the automated voting machine company the company from which the county purchased its first electronic voting machine system. The position of maintenance director will be Brown who had served As Allens assistant will temporarily f ill the position until a new appointment is made the commissioners said. In another matter related to personnel june Houck was hired As temporary part time victim witness coordinator As per the recommendation of District attorney Daniel j. Barrett in this position is. Houck will be preparing a pamphlet which lists services available to victims of crimes. She will also assist witnesses and victims to better understand How the court system works and help them through the various stages of the cases in which they Are involved. The appointment of the victim witness coordinator is made possible though the receipt of a $7500 state Grant which will fund this position for approximately 1,000 hours. Commissioner Bob Horton quipped that the awarding of this Grant represents a change in that it enables the county a to do something for the Good the sole bid submitted for an al wheel drive vehicle from Bradco Supply company in the amount of $20,398, was accepted by a unanimous vote passed by the commissioners. Bids were opened tor Bridge maintenance materials and county Manor furnishings bids slated for Purchase and for children and youth Foster Parent training tapes which Are no longer being used and Are thus being sold the Bridge maintenance materials and county Manor furnishing bids were taken under advisement for review. A $500 bid submitted by Lycoming county for the Foster Parent training tapes will be reviewed and if it is found to be acceptable these tapes will be sold to that county. The Only other bid received for the tapes was from Adams county and was in the amount of $40. Martin Brothers hardware submitted the sole bid for paint to be used by the Bridge maintenance Crews. This bid totalled $3,628.50, Bradco Supply was the sole bidder for blasting Sand this bid totalling $3,045. Bids for Manor furnishings were received from Hub surgical Williamsport Swift and Barnes Scranton , Lancaster according to the world almanac Book of inventions the saxophone was invented by Adolphe sax when he tried to improve the Bass clarinet. The new instrument which was named after its belgian inventor was patented in 1846 and was first used in military fanfares. The apparent Low bidder for desks is b.m.c., inc., with a bid of $6,653 for chairs b m a inc., with a bid of $10,544 for files. Swift and Barnes $16,954.55 for dining room furnishings b.m.c., inc., with a bid Price of $11,834 convalescent chairs ., with a bid of $5,878.04 and patient charting equipment. Hub surgical with a bid of $8,095.78. A Resolution was passed by the commissioners approving the county s revised emergency operations plan the revisions were necessary in order to comply with changes in state regulations it was explained also approved was an agreement with rehab for human resource coordinating services funded through the Community services Block Grant. This action is necessary Gannon said because the government will not permit these monies to come directly to the county. A memorandum of understanding Between the county and Pennsylvania department of agriculture was Given Board approval this action confirms inspection responsibilities of both the county and state weights and measures officials. Gannon praised the work which has been performed in this area in recent years by the county a sealer of weights and measures. Norm Cook. Resolutions were approved rescinding one redeveloped and approving two others for parcels of property in the Athens disaster Urban renewal project these actions previously were approved by Athens Borough Council a list of employee transfers and hires was approved to fill vacancies in county Manor positions. Under other personnel actions Elizabeth Allen was hired As a part time resident Counselor at Sage House and Brian Bloss was approved for hire As a temporary summer planning commission intern.
