A a i wish them the Best of Luck and i plan to remain Active and help out in any Way 1 although Stetz was not present at tuesday nights meeting at the Bradford county Library when 49 committee persons elected the new slate of officers he said that he was fully aware of Sullivan a intentions and had even discussed them with his successor prior to tuesday nights re organizational session a i did not intend to run again 1 have some other political plans and i done to think it would be fair to continue As party chairman a said Stetz who hinted that he is considering a run for office himself though he declined to elaborate adding a a you la be the first to know if and when i make any Sullivan an Asylum township Farmer whose father was a party chief in the sixties is joined at the Helm of the Bradford county committee by James Amory vice chairman Marie Terlizzi treasurer and Musette Duggan Secretary Stetz said that he handled the Job As committee chairman a to the Best of my ability and conceded that even though he May have made some mistakes in the Job he had attempted to run the party in a manner he thought was in the Best interests not Only of the party but of the voters of Bradford county. A a in be been criticized for supporting a Republican judge Jeffrey Smith before last years primary election but i honestly Felt he had the support of the people and i think the results of that election backed me up a Stetz said. A nobody Ever mentions one of the pledges of new treasurer Terlizzi was that the democratic committee is a not going to be secretive this too probably stems from Stetzy a announced party endorsement of Smith after which he was roundly criticized for not securing the backing of committee members before making the endorsement Public. Stetz defends his actions in that matter by reiterating that he genuinely believed Smith was the Peoples Choice. As far As those who feel democrats be backing republicans he pointed out that thanks to the Law that enables Cross filing on the primary ballot that Smith As Well As Franklin r. Daily review photo by Jackie Page Sullivan county May Stop daycare by Scott Miller Sullivan county a director of childrens services said yesterday the county May discontinue its daycare program due to an impending loss of title 20 Grants to fund it. Doris Beinlich childrens services director said the loss of the funds which this year could amount to $64,562, would be due to a a variety of reasons a some of which have affected the eligibility of potential participants and some the amount of participation in the program. Currently the program serves 14 children from 10 families in the county. So far this year the program has used Only $25,000 of the title 20 Grant Money allocated to it. One of the a a reasons affecting eligibility of potential participants Beinlich said Are the requirements for the title 20 Grants. Title 20 Grants Are Federal Money administered by the state for the purpose of providing daycare facilities. In order for a family to be eligible for Grant Money both parents must be employed. However recent factory closings in Sullivan county mean in some cases at least one Parent is out of work. And even if the closings done to affect a family a eligibility another problem arises when both parents Are employed their incomes May be too High to qualify them for a title 20 Grant Beinlich said. Quot eligibility is such that both parents must be working a Beinlich said. A however if two Are working that usually makes them another Factor May be causing a Lack of participation in the program Beinlich said travel distance to the daycare Center. Currently the Sullivan county school District donates a room at the Turnpike elementary school in Mildred for daycare use Beinlich said she believes the travel time and extra mileage spent delivering children to and from Turnpike Are keeping families from enrolling in the program a i suspect there Are families out j police fire and court news dui arrest made in Monroe township mishap a 47-year-old Monroeton re 1 Man has been arrested and charged with driving under the influence and reckless driving according to state police at North Towanda. Ordinance prohibits burning garbage Towanda Borough police chief Dale Cole has issued a reminder that there is an ordinance in effect prohibiting the burning of garbage within the Borough limits. Papers can be burned if the Container is an approved one and properly covered it was noted but the burning of garbage is strictly prohibited. Persons who violate the no garbage burning ordinance Are subject to being fined. No parking travel on second Street Towanda Borough police chief Dale Cole reminds motorists that from 7 . To 5 30 . Underage drinking is charged Towanda Borough police on Friday night cited four juveniles for underage drinking. The citations were issued As a result of a disturbance taking place during graduation exercises. One juvenile was also cited for disorderly conduct. Borough police chief Dale Cole noted that the youths were not Towanda High school students. The former party chairman said the most important thing now for the party is to become More unified. He noted that voter registration efforts Are still crucial to the future of democrats in a county where gop voters outnumber them by 17,283 to 7,514 last May a committee for a democratic future was formed in an Effort to revitalize the party in Bradford county. Members of that committee included Amory Terlizzi and Duggan among its goals was to design a platform for the Bradford county democratic committee after promoting forums and taking polls on issues filling vacancies on the committee conducting an aggressive voter registration program and revising the committee bylaws. Robert on charges of burglary theft and receiving in connection with a dec. 25 incident occurring at Croft Ford in Athens. It was alleged Robert stole a 1983 Ford Ranger truck in the Early morning hours of Christmas Day 1985 according to testimony Given in this Case after a a tracking the defendant aided by footprints in the Snow. Officer Walter Wagner of the Athens Borough police found Robert wiping Snow off the window of the stolen vehicle. The prosecution charged that Robert on being questioned by the officer first claimed that the vehicle belonged to his Uncle. Robert then reportedly attempted to flee the scene after officer Wagner observed the dealer plates on the vehicle and told Robert he was going to assume Possession of the truck keys until head completed a further investigation. During yesterdays meeting of the Bradford county commissioners the Board approved an agreement authorizing that architectural services to be undertaken by Mark Honchell for a proposed addition to the mental health mental retardation offices. The lease the mental health mental retardation program currently holds for office space it occupies on William Street will be expiring on oct. 1, the commissioners explained. According to commissioner chairman Marilyn Bok. It is believed that this Agency can pay off a mortgage to build a 6.000-Square-feet office building More cheaply than it would Cost to renew the existing lease. Thus a study is under Way to see if this would be the most Cost effective Way to provide office space for the mental health mental retardation program. This Agency presently leases half of the upstairs of the North Towanda Annex building with its remaining offices being located at the William Street site. What is being proposed is construction of a new building on the Annex property the county owns with an attached Walkway being built betwee the connecting offices of this Agency. A although there would be no direct costs savings to the county in doing this there would be indirect costs savings to taxpayers in that the state would be paying less Cost in lease monies it was explained. Once the mortgage was paid on the proposed new building it would become a property of the county the commissioner said. About purchasing the land but no definite arrangement has Beer worked out.
