Young Frank s interest in a Newton Telephone which his parents had bought and brought to the event to lure him Down the 15-foot raceway enabled him to easily outdistanced two other competitors in the final and title deciding crawl off. His crowd pleasing performance netted him first place trophy and a $50 savings Bond Courtesy of the Uso. A standing room Only crowd which the Kadena Uso s assistant director estimated to be larger than last year s turnout jammed into the Uso s makeshift raceway and watched and cheered As 82 Youthful contestants crawled through 13 preliminary and three semifinal races. There were actually 83 entrants this year More than double last year s number but one youngster slept through the entire event and was scratched fro the race at the last minute As a no in the final heat of the afternoon with Frank already across the finish line the race was actually close Between the second and third place contestants Kenneth Smith and Amanda Weaver.
