Ottumwa Courier (Newspaper) - August 8, 2015, Ottumwa, Iowa Dance convention set for 2017 in Des Moines by Megan Berberich courier St to writer Ottumwa a Square dancing is alive and Well in Southeast Iowa and theres two huge events happening for dancers in the Region within the next couple of years. The first is the National Square and round Hance convention that will let a held in Des Moines from june 22-25, 2015. Both Ottumwa Square dance clubs will be at the National convention. Members of the b squares will he helping camper dancers on the state Fairgrounds during that time and members of the dudes in dolls will be helping with the a Parade of states at the convention Center in Des Moines. Thousands Are expected to ascend to the Center of the state next june. Closer to Home will be the Iowa state and round dance convention held at Bridge View Center on april 7-8, 2017. This will be just the second time that the Ottumwa area has gotten the hid for the convention the last time was in 2010. Michele Weber the publicity chairman for the 2017 convention credits Bridge View Center for boosting Ottumwa a chances for earning the hid. A Ottumwa has tried to hold the convention since the 1950s. Southeast Iowa has three callers who teach Square dance lessons Robin Ragen in the Ottumwa Fairfield area Dong Mccart in the Albia Humeston area and Lorn Manning in the mount pleasant Burlington area. Sentencing soon in Federal drug Case for 2 Iowa men Ottumwa a the second of two men arrested in a major drug bust last summer appears headed for sentencing. Jose Inocencio initially faced state charges in the Case but those were dropped when Federal prosecutors filed a three count indictment.
