With his family by his side, John Ruta, passed away at his home peacefully on Sunday, July 1, 2012. John will be forever loved and cherished by his family. Loving wife, Mary, of 58 years, children Grant (Barb), Cindy Onsowich (Moray), Susan Ruchkall (Dave) and Michelle Paulsen( Dave). Gigi will be missed by his Grandchildren Kaylin, Kace, Karmyn, Ryan, Lindsay, Brandon, Danica, Ashley (Greg), Jade, Sydney and Brooke. Also, his siblings, Stella, Delores, Eleanor, Nick, Stevie, Connie and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. He was predeceased by his parents, Nick and Anne Ruta. John was born on March 30, 1931 and was raised in Cooks Creek, MB. After marrying Mary Fecio, they moved to Winnipeg where John worked as a steel father for 32 years. The move to Winnipeg was short lived as John's love for farming brought him back to Oakbank. Family was very important to Dad. He enjoyed numerous hunting, camping, fishing and snowmobiling trips. His love for travel and his RV took Mom and Dad across Canada and the US. Dad's dream of a family holiday came true when he took us all to Mexico in 2008. A trip we will always cherish. Dad loved his church and had wonderful memories of helping to build it. He continued to help at the church throughout his life. He was especially proud to be a member of the church choir. Dad was a wonderful father who instilled in us the value of family and demonstrated strength through difficult times. Mom was his angel who's never ending loving care carried him through his final days. We sincerely thank the home care nurses, Caroline and Jolene for their compassion and support. Prayers were held on Thursday, July 5, 2012 at 7:30 pm at Immaculate Conception Ukrainian Catholic Church in Cooks Creek, MB. Divine Liturgy was held on Friday, July 6, 2012 at 10:00 am, also at the church. Interment followed at parish cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Manitoba Special Olympics, Society for Manitobans with Disabilities or the Cerebral Palsy Foundation. You were a wonderful Husband, an incredible Father and Father-in-law and fun loving Gigi. We miss you deeply and will always hold you close in our hearts.
