This question isasked in. many letters to the editor. ‘First, let us see what the parents propose. They say that bringing back the old-fashioned phonetics would solve the problem.Phonetics, 'as .the dictionary says, is a science dealing with speech sounds, not with letter sounds. Obviously, it is good for rhetoric, not for reading or writing. Therefore it has no place in our present.educational system.My solution to this problem is a very simple one: The use -of “phonics (not to be mistaken for phonetics!) Phonics simply deal with symbols' (letters) sound. You may find them in any good dictionary. In a dictionary you can .find a list of phonics — forty-three sounds for all languages. Then, you can help the childrento get it into their heads.
