Oakland Tribune (Newspaper) - November 26, 1934, Oakland, California OAKLAND TRIBUNE MONDAY NOVEMBER 26 1934 M3 SOME time ago One meaning one of the other women in the wellknown usher story She was unselfish idealistic and hopeful that time would make her dreams come true The dreams To be the wife of the man she loved and have a baby or two 1 am the one say ng that she was unselfish and idealistic She merely told of her life The wife according to One T HIS letter allows me to comfortably on the fence Dear Geraldine May I have a word with W S H please Dear W S H Although I have never read a letter of yours in which you slated in so many words that you are or have been a Bible student your letters all give me the impression that you are and so I again why insult the poor dumb animals Oh piffle BUG as a name and a protector of his children These are some more of the an swers to that sort of problem First Boco Dear Geraldine I wish the girl who signed herself One of Them could read Dr Hardys book on problems of today the outgrowth of our present social revolution Grow ing pains of society she called them The book is called The Way All Women It might give her a little additional ballast for her outlook in fact I think it would It of Thems story was not fit for will answer you as one student to her job and so the husband stayed I another Before taking up this branch of theology that Wondering A D and I were talking of I too used to think of love and wisdom as attributes of life or rather of in telligence I did not at that time think of life as God much less of intelligence as God But after a careful earnest study of the Bible especially of the New Testa ment and much thinking on this subject I have come to the con clusion that my old way of think ing was wrong St John states In the be ts capably written Dear EmKayEss I could recom mend you highly for all occasions Thanks for the hand Smutual I think you are about right Here sit I a typewriter in one hand a cup of coffee in the other and I think Geraldines column is keen which seems to be the sum total of my cogitations The mental picture It is interesting I dont know but I think you do If you dont think your reasons out you have felt them out Reason enough for a woman not so I dont imagine scientific proof or reason is at all necessary to the full assimila tion of your experience The letter written by A Thin Man to Maiden in Distress was good A fine letter by a fine person I thought To some of the letters printed in the column Id like to fire OUR CHI LDREN BY ANGELO PATAf TT T THINGS T PI AT M A J1 E Women beautiful By MIGNON So often even the most careful tell me and while they us find that when we are about to go to a party everything seems according to Hoylo except for a tiny spot here and there on the come through the skin the sight of a red spot under the skin is cer tainly not attractive I have discovered that you can do I found a flesh colored liquid off a salute After being adopted by Aunty Sue if you are still short of family on the feminine side will you con sider my application I could sec you around often with pleasure Whatever you do the best of luck ANOTHER reply from a woman who believes in friendship Dear Geraldine In regard to the other woman I can say this much erhaps I dont need any credit I never had to have a man so bad that I would take another womans husband and I would not respect R man that would leave his family for no other reason than I would be afraid he would do the same by me vice versa I have a great many men friends that are good to me and respect me but I draw the line They have wives that arc friends of mine and why vamp the hus bands I have no desire for the men and if I should have way in the future me one whose wife has passed over the beautiful ftrivcr and that he was not the cause either I think this is the general opinion of most people Thank you for your time TRULY f 8 Before I fell headlong in love with a man I would want to be very sure he was not married i so forget him The best wny to treat the men is be sociable bu not serious So long Just a woman that has had her eyes opened in regard to the major ity of the socalled can even be called that T ginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the Word was God The word undoubtedly moans intelligence or wisdom It further states In Him the word was life and life was the light in telligence of man It doesnt seem 0 put one as an attribute of the ther unless perhaps it is to put ife in a sense as an attribute of visdom And can of course speak jf the love of love but the Bible tates plainly that God is Love John 4 8 and that loveth not knoweth not God for God is ove Also God is Love and he hat dwelleth in love dwclleth in od and God in him Jesus own words seem to me to JVOVD that love wisdom and life re one and that one God He said vhen healing disease I can of mine own self do nothing the ather that dwelleth in me He loeth the works and The words hat I speak unto you they arc Spirit wisdom and they arc life 1 is God that dwelleth in you We arc taught to believe that wis dom intelligence and love are something in the brain But that cannot be our limited sense of wisdom is far too large to ever e confined in such a small thing To me we dwell in wisdom or ite not it or they in us We have hern by reflection just as the sun jeam has light and warmth from he sun The sun is the light and he warmth Take for example radio or wireless telegraph It is said that two men in entirely dif ferent parts of the earth made the discovery at the same time It is also said that Kocallcd savages in remote South Sea Islands have for untold years used almost the same method ot communication over miles of water All of these thoughts or discov eries must have come from the same source We merely lop that source or use the thoughts of that vast intelligence Understanding is the hey hat opens the door to us And understanding is a well spring of life unto him that hath it You spenk of love as a desire to preserve life which sounds to me more like the fear of death But even this lower sense of love is as I said in my first letter on this sub the outward expres human expression of love It is not love itself but the reflec tion of love The last part of your letter was not written to me but could 1 humbly suggest that these ungod less ones copy our French cousins and call each other pigs dogs nnd goats very forcefully But then EVERYBODY DOES IT did ou buy for today Simon I had a sandwich and doughnuts and cake and dill pickle What kind of a sandwich Hot dog Now Simon You know how careful I am of your food and you go and eat an unbalanced lunch eon like that Why didnt you have some good soup and a salad and a piece of cake for your dessert I dont like soup and I get salad and soup at home alt the time I like a change You never give me a dog and a pickle and I like them They make you sick every time I dont see why they should make me sick Everybody eats them You havent everybodys stom ach You haveyour own and it happens to be a cranky one Im not depriving you of anything that does you good Im trying to build your body and keep you from being sick I always get lectured Every body else can do what they like but I have lo get a scolding about every little thing I did think that when I got into high school Id ho let alone a little Mother sighed and said no more At dinner that evening Simon nib bled his food There was no pleas ure in eating for him Soon after leaving the table he wont to his room Whats the matter asked father when the boy had left the room Ate the wrong kind ot lunch to day and I expect that he is going to be sick He cant eat hot dogs and pickles and get away with it but because some of the others can he thinks he can This is a common mistake of childhood and adolescence T h c herd instinct is strong in them and they feel they must do what every body else does wear the same clothes eat the same food play the same games But nature has made them different individual unique in some fcspccl or other One cannot eat certain foods another cannot attend games a sharp nervous reaction another cannot lose an hours sleep without suffering the next day Hach feels that there is no reason for suffering such a handi cap and each struggles lo ignore it and he like everybody else The result is often painful Wo have to struggle to teach them to adjust themselves lo their vari ous differences and to rejoice in their individualism If they have a weakness they also have a strength and protect the weakness and guard against its harmful ef fects It is very difficult to leach chil dren any such idea but if they did not need us we should not be in parental or school relationship to Co rner Intimate Chats Pertaining to the Home powder that does not cake on your face and hat spreads easily as if it wore slightly creamed Not be ing white it doesnt show and you can dust powder over it after it dries It is a good thing to use to cover a lew annoying freckles if you dont like them Always use a cream first before applying liquid powder or you might find that it is drying to your skin This particular one that I have used has proved en tirely satisfactory and not drying but I am never without a cold cream used as a base so that may be one reason why it worked so well You always wipe cold cream off with tissues of course before applying the liquid powder Another use for this liquid is to cover circles under the eyes If you have too many wrinkles it isnt quite as successful but if you are not too old you will find that this is a most satisfactory way of look ing less tired than you feel Tired circles arc never pretty They are not even interesting The powder
