In my several years of covering meetings of All kinds five never seen one that hot and crowded and apparently neither has anyone else. I thought the crowd might Stampede the Board t Here was definite threat of menace at times. The crowd majority was angry about the non renewal of football coach Dave hurts contract. During recent weeks i have been working on a Story about the difficulties of learning disabled children in school districts part of any perceived problem is one of communication and Here is where i believe the of Hud woman could help out. The person could be hired by a joint panel of school personnel and parents for a limited term say two or three years. This person could mediate in problems Between parents and school teachers and administrators and could probably solve them before t hey get big. When i was at us such a program was begun and i believe it de fused quite a few potentially explosive situations. In this office i hear a lot about school problems particularly from one woman s son was paddled at a local Junior High school for being late to a lass i ask you How reasonable is that another woman a former team hrs tells How certain teachers at her child a school retaliate against children in the special program for gifted children. One woman has been told that her child a learning disability is caused by her own problems. She is concerned that the problem is not receive adequate attention i have no Way of judging these remarks without knowing the entire Story but the entire Story is Seldom available to us nor perhaps should it be. I do know that Many of the parents i have talked to seem intelligent truthful and relatively sophisticated. They All share one thing in common however they Are afraid to complain about the problem to the school teacher or principal. They Are All afraid that their children will be the objects of retaliation. Their fears May not be Well grounded but they Are Universal enough that i believe they need to be allayed. He or she could probably solve Many problems without getting into personal names and without precipitating personal conflicts. Perhaps parents Are concerned about a problem that their child has mentioned but they Don t really know if the child is exaggerating or mistaken about the situation. They done to want to make the child look badly in the eyes of the teacher or principal so they just say nothing at All. The property is one of the last areas in the Village without sewers. The commission recommended the Village pay for the sewer up to the property line then the Developer would take the sewer across to Ridge re. He will continue to teach in the occupational work experience program at the High school. The committee includes High school principal Rollin Goodpaster. Athletic director Jim Turner District principal and former coach Bud acus and assistant coach Fred Emerson. The committee has a target of sometime before memorial Day to come up with a list of candidates.
