What n we consider that the heal the ticket had Tut 12 Plu laity it is evident u at t e democratic machinery to Caracas county is out goer. In comparing the vote Tuscarawas countr Fogt a Mckinley 1 it tuesday with the vote Given Harrison in 1889 4730we find the up i lican party has not gained any for Harrison had 173 More votes than Mckinley and the vote let a Larrison ought to be a fair ust As to the actual strength the party. The fact is the whole trouble arose within the Democrat c party and can be accounted for in several Way i the Peoples party polled 331 votes in the count and nine tenths that vote came from the democratic ranks. Republicans chuckle Over the fact that they kept their party in line and that but few voted the Peoples ticket. They further admit that they got their vote to the pol 18. While the other hand we find that forty four democratic voters Bucks township either stayed at Home voted the Peoples ticket sixty to seventy in Salem thirty six in Auburn thirty six in Jefferson thirty four in York thirty six in Lawrence eighteen in Wayne Twenty six in Perry and the same proportion Unali Othef townships. Those who voted the Peoples ticket were no doubt sincere and believed that the third party would swell into such promotions that it would soon bring about a Reform in Tariff legislation. It served As a trap to catch Democrat and did its work effectually to the great pleasure republicans All Over the state. The democracy utterly failed to get out the vote and to instruct Tho people How to Mark their ballot while republicans were Active for several weeks instructing their voters the county ticket suffered severely this account. Two Hundred and ninety four democrats put their Mark opposite Campbell s name instead in the Blank place for it while Only 170 republicans put their Mark opposite Mckinley a name. The result such voting counted for Campbell and Mckinley and not for any one else. There being a difference 124 votes against the democratic county ticket because that Many More democrats lost their votes than republicans. Many democrats put their Mark beside the rooster and lost their entire Vole and such votes were not counted. The a it suit was that the head the ticket had a plurality 542 rot s and several fell below that number As seen by the table and the sheriff Dej heated. Democrats you see we Are to blame ourselves. Our votes have not gone Over to the Republican party. Again the Kangaroo ballot was not proof against the manufacturers democrat1-in some instances were hired to stay at Home in democratic counties. It is Lumores that Murn Bers our party in Tuse Rivas county accepted pay from republicans to stay at Home. It is Taul that democrats Oxford township did it we Hope this is not True and Are loth to believe it. We understand the prosecuting attorneys attention has been called to it and an invest git Ion will be m Ide. If any Democrat has accepted pay to stay at Horn-3, he deserves to be punished As Weli As the bribery. He should forfeit the right suffrage. If you want a victorious democratic party m Tuscarawas count you must arouse from your lethargy drop local differences and harmonize the party. See to it that nominations Are made fair and honestly and that the party is not run in the interest the few. Get yourselves together for 1s92. The Republican administration is about to Bounce controller the currency Lacey for incompetency. The Many Bank Dildoes is alarming Harrison. A minister Eagan at Chili had to ask the chilian authorities for Protection against mob violence. A squad cavalry was assigned duty at the legation to protect american. If the two Irish factions keep killing each other off As they Are now doing they will not need a Leader. The English lords will have but Little to fear from an Irish Leader now. It is divided Ireland instead United Ireland. If the basis representation to the county convention next year is based the votes for Campbell the delegations in Many townships will be Small. Bowers sleeps in the front room Down stairs. The thief used an instrument something like a Small pair Pinchers to turn the key the Kitchen door. He went to the bedroom and secured the Vest and pants . Bowers took them to the Kitchen and there rifled his pockets leaving his watch and pocket Book lying the table and taking his Money to the amount $7.00. The thief no doubt thought the watch might turn up against him and did not take it. The prisoners in the county jail came near making their escape last saturday. In Day time their cell doors were left open letting them have the Freedom the entire Cage. They pried up the Iron strip from under a cell door and that gave a Chance to get a Prie under one Section the floor which is Iron about i an Inch thick. The floor and strip Are fastened with rivets but the Heads had been worn off so a to draw through when a Prie was put under. By bending Back this Section the floor that left an opening about 14 inches Down to the floor the jail. Then one would go Down there and work the Stone Wall supporting the Cage and succeeded in turning one Stone around and nearly out which when entirely out would let them outside the Cage. The object then was to rap for some one to come and fix the fires and when the women folks would enter then to Over Power them and Rush out through the open door. Saturday afternoon . Goeler went into the jail and walked entirely around the jail to see that everything was All right and noticed the Stone partly removed. They were not quite ready probably they would have tried their game . Goeler. He immediately locked them in their cells. They had taken off a cell door to use a a lever a raising the floor and would sing and keep up a noise to drown the noise their work. The jail has Many scars and patches from attempts to escape from time to time. Barnhill is still in a flourishing Condi Lon every thing is booming even the bicycles. Supt. G. W. Helter and prof. W. C., nov. 6, 1891. The Jollif cation jubilant democrats is giving this town almost As Rosy a Hue As it had a year ago when the returns came from the congressional elections and Quot Well yes three out four will do very Well a has become a sort democratic countersign. It refers course to the election three democratic governors out the four states in which governors were elected. Every train brings prominent democrats and one and All Are the same opinion that by this time next year a democratic president will have been elected. Representative Mills said Quot in Massachusetts it was a Square fight a contest Over a principle and the doctrine the democracy was endorsed by the people who believe that our party is the exponent sound ideas and the Correct theories government. There is nothing in Ohio to cause us discouragement though i confess that i believed that Campbell would be re elected. Still Ohio is a Republican state. A democratic Victory in a state like Iowa is something to be proud . Flowers Triumph in new York is a grand one but it is Best not to be too sanguine Over carrying that state next year. It is always uncomfortably close and doubtful in presidential years. Yet a Square test i am confident that democracy is stronger in the state than republicanism. Yet we must Overlook no precaution to insure Victory in 1892. We must in the scriptural phrase be As Wise As serpents and harmless As doves. If we obey this injunction we ought to win not Only in new York next year but throughout the . Mills has opened Headquarters in one the up town hotels for the speaker ship Campaign and the other candidates will follow suit in a few Days As there is but Little More than three weeks left for them to work. It has leaked out through the gossip those High up in official society that . Ald mrs. Blaine Are making no social engagements any kind More than four five weeks ahead. The reason Tor this is that they will in Case the Secretary a health shows the slightest sign breaking Down Linnie Diate y leave for a warmer climate where they will spend the Winter. Should . Blaines health his inclination Lead him to leave Washington again for an indefinite period it is not believed that he would retain the state portfolio. Indeed this plea bad health May be made his excuse for leaving the Cabinet in order that he May become through his friends an open candidate for the presidential nomination his party As Many believe that he is certain to do inside six months. The election Mckinley As governor Ohio has brought a disturbing element into the calculations both Blaine and Harrison. They know that if Mckinley is disposed to be a candidate and there Are Good reasons for believing be is that he will go into the convention with a very Strong following. Of course pressure will be brought to Bear Mckinley to have him agree to wait but he May think that he has waited Long enough. Secretary Proctor continues to draw the salary Secretary War Alt Hough he has gone to Vermont and they say around the department that he is not expected to return until he comes to officially Transfer the department to his successor who has not been announced although he has been selected. Representative Bynum Indiana is enthusiastic Over the election returns. Said he Quot three out four Isnit bad its just about what i thought it would be. I never thought the democrats could carry Ohio which is a Republican state so there is no reason for being downcast Over the news from there. All in All the result the elections is a great democratic Victory which Means Success next year. It Means that wet Hall have new York new Jersey Connecticut and Massachusetts in the East and 1 should not be surprised if we carry Rhode Island and new Hampshire. Tariff Reform is continually making democratic votes in Trie Eastern Republican strongholds. I see no Clouds upon the democratic horizon. We could not have hoped for a brighter sky. It would have been almost a Miracle had we carried Ohio and the Days miracles Are the decision the u. S. Dietrict court California that the shipment arms the Itata was a perfectly proper commercial transaction and that this government had no right to interfere was very unpalatable to the administration and the attorney general has directed that an Appeal be taken. Or. Harrison is quite modest. To says that if the republicans in new York had stuck to National issues Fasset t might have been elected. Secretary Tracy says he was Defeated by the republicans who stayed at Home but it looks very much to most people As if he was Defeated by the democrats who voted against him.
