Since it has been rumoured that the Pennsylvania Railroad company contemplated extending their Branch Road from Bayard to this place to Dennison the main line the handle the citizens our town have become somewhat interested and earnestly desire that improvement. It is a notorious fact that the accommodations Over the c. L. Amp w. To Uhrichsville Are very poor account not making connections with the trains West. We done to know who is to blame but we do know that if the c. Amp p. Was extended to Dennison that that Road would control the passenger traffic for several reasons. First the handle and c. Amp p. Would be under one management and it would be to the interest the Pennsylvania company to make proper connections. Secondly it is the end the division at Dennison and a stopping place for meals and would give ample time for making connections. Thirdly the streets from Dennison to Uhrichsville Are much better than from Uhrichsville Junction Over and the distance a Little Shorter. Fourthly the depot in new Philadelphia is much More convenient to the Public Square than the one the c. L. Amp w. And lastly we think it would be a paying investment for the comp any and would also give the trains the main line an Opportunity to get into Pittsburg Over the c. Amp p. Route in Case blockade the East end loss Bridges. The citizens new Philadelphia will furnish the right Way through the corporation. It has been suggested that a petition from the business men and citizens be gotten and sent to the Pennsylvania company requesting the Extension and this will doubtless be done. We Hope the company will consider the matter. Steubenville Gazette Rev. J. A. It is rumoured again that among the Many improvements which the Pennsylvania Railroad co. Will make its lines West Pitsburg in the near future will be building a connecting link from the Tuscarawas Branch the Cleveland amp Pittsburg Road to the handle at Dennison. It is a wonder that this has not been done before now As it would give the Pennsylvania lines a direct route from the handle to Cleveland and other Northern Points thus securing much traffic that now goes to other roads. The building this connecting link would be a great improvement for Dennison and it seems to 11s that some our leading citizens should Confer with the Pennsylvania officers and ascertain what Prospect there is for an Early construction the new paragraph. Yes the Extension that Road would undoubtedly Benefit Dennison and our people think that it would also Benefit new Philadelphia. These remedies have won their great popularity purely 011 their merits. F. C. Miller amp songs druggists. I noticed an article in last weeks times this subject read by m. L. Kennedy before the above mentioned organization but composed however by an entirely different individual. To the casual Reader uninformed with the objects designs and purports tha author the essay reads innocent enough but to those who Are unfortunate enough to be better acquainted with the circumstances connected with its publication it is one the most unwarranted contemptible and sneaking attacks from ambush citizens who Are the peer any in the country. While we appreciate the authors Good sense and foresight in selecting tie times for its publication Well knowing it to have a considerable larger Reading constituency than any other county publication yet we unhesitatingly charge him with being insincere and not caring a snap whether the reforms advocated will Ever be instituted not As Long As he himself is allowed to blow his own Horn and other people dance to his tune and the editor the times had he known the name the author would 110 More open his columns to this Model Solomon and self constituted Champion one Man Power than he would to this Fellows other relation who dwells somewhere where a Linen duster and a Straw hat is considered sufficient apparel to keep one warm. To begin with and show the fallacy his ratings about citizenship and to disclose his selfish and arrogant motives i wish to Call attention to the fact that state and National abuses which he complains do not concern him whatever but he specifies township matters As the great Root corruption and the Farmers and mechanics As the Quot loafers political dead beats and Bummer so who bring about such a state affairs because a farming Community is principally composed Farmers he can have reference to them Only. We All know however that in farming communities tie above named unnecessary social appendages Are the exception and not the Rule but if to constitute a Genus Homo the above Stripe is to he self assertive self thinking self controlling opposed to one Man Power zealously industrious and uncompromisingly straightforward in business transactions then we have bushels them around and a blurring this True picture an average farming neighbourhood is not a faithful reproduction. We have known townships to be in line with the author this Grange essay whose caucuses were for years manipulated by one Man Only then everything was Lovely and the Goose Hung High but just As soon As the people took it in their Heads to control them themselves there was wailing and chattering Teeth in certain quarters and it was then considered a crime by some would be reformers to even look in at the doors a caucus because the great Mogul by gone years had to silently take his Medicine. Again we have known aspirants to office Quot to go around and visit the wire pullers the party a but happening to strike the wrong pullers go to a convention and he beat out their much coveted Plum. Returning Home they grabbed a pen and rushed into print denouncing any and everything As corrupt and purchasable. They came to this conclusion by reflecting Over and expressing their own experience supposing other candidates followed their own practices and desiring their constituents to believe them the personification integrity and honesty. A vast there you hypocrites in ninety nine cases out a Hundred it is just such individuals who Are continually harping about dishonesty at caucuses elections and who Are using the cry Reform As a cloak to conceal their corrupt methods. While perhaps some assertions As to corruption Are applicable to Large cities and partially True such a charge is absurd malicious and untrue As regards a farming Community and can never be proven substantiated. It is indeed strange that any member the Grange an organization which is supposed to consist principally Farmers should vilify and denounce members their own Craft As scoundrels the blackest Dye and it to he reserved fora disinterested party to take up the Cudgel in their defense. But such is life. In conclusion i wish to say had . Kennedy when he was requested to read said essay known its purport and that it was done for the purpose using his name so As to insure publication in the times he would undoubtedly have hesitated to comply with the request. While the circulation tie times in this locality stands in the front rank county papers Only two members Are subscribers and it would therefore not be Likely that its columns would be demanded for the publication an article its merits. No no. The author however had an a to grind and so As to reach the eyes the men he wanted it to see he selected the times As the Only Organ to accomplish it As the vehicle and the organization As the Means for doing it. In his attempt to slur an honorable gentleman and his friends he has to do it 111 using the Grange As an indication respectability by getting some one else to read his essay and thus create the impression that the Reader was the author. What inconsistency denouncing underhanded methods advocating a nobler and better manhood and then in the same breath adopting the very methods criticised As the Quot vilest the if the authors Conception a Quot bests citizen is personified in such action then his Standard citizenship hangs about As High As the Fellows who wanted to he Hung to a Gooseberry tree. Look at the spectacle a Man disappointed in obtaining an office wrathful because a fellow neighbor did obtain one which this Quot bests citizen did not want him to have and continually pouring out and through All possible channels his venom and spite. Look at the persistency worthy a better cause with which he nurses these attributes and brings them to Public notice at an opportune time clothed in language advocating a popular measure his heart and his practices however All the other Side the Fence. It is his renewed Effort to once More gain the control and manipulate the lever party machinery for selfish and personal ends. He knows the caucuses Are drawing near he sniffs the doors arising out the political pot but knows he has to control himself with the smell alone. A Macbeth i know thee a that Grange article shows Industry to be one the Cardinal Virtues its author. Everybody knows that no Farmer can Lay claim to being industrious who is not kept Busy killing potato bugs the principal crop any intelligent Farmer and anyone who would so far forget himself As to leaving the bugs alone Long enough to waste a lot valuable time in searching for a boy who would do the work for Twenty five cents would be considered a Lunatic. But enough this. That whole article consists not in the logic argument nor the philosophy reasoning but to a Man up a tree looks More like the wailing despairing cry a disappointed broken Down politician whose Hopes prospects and aspirations have gone where the Wood Bine twin eth.
