Rescue workers pup the body of ?i year-old iury athat 'nay have contributed to the Tame: Rudo'fo Tame*' of San Antonio ’rom Canyor    mabt    tty    lo stay    af oat    Tamer    death    brings    to Lake Tuesday afternoon Authorities sported    10 the    number    of drownings    in Comal    County    rn that alcohol may have contributed to what of*    I 9 8 ficiais are calling a drowning despite a head in iPhoto bv Def v Cark By TR AVIS POLING and DAVID MAY Staff Writers An afternoon of cliff diving at Canyon Lake's North Park Tuesday ended tragically for a 21 -year-old San Antonio man who drow ned after sus taming a severe head injury anti sinking below the surface of the water The body of Kudolfo l*ouis lame/ wa^ recovered just before 6pm after fewer than two minutes of sear ching by divers Tamez was pro flounced dead at the scene by Judge How and Smith who ruled the death a drowning a^ the result of a div mg ac cident The drowning was reported to the Comal County sheriff's I>epartment at approximately lpm CS Army C orp' of Fngmeers Park Hanger Judy Scott said Tamez was with a friend Richard Robert NA cif f 23 also of San Antonio on the cliffs at North Park w hen Tamez dove in scott 'aid Wolff did not see if Tame/ dove in and did not return to the surface or if Tame? went under after resurfacing However '-truth said a couple of boaters witnessed Tame/ diving in head firs* md said he appeared lo have hit hi- head on rocks at or just t>elow the water s surface His bt>d> floated momentarily atop the water and then submerged “It looked Ilke ne nit his head just below the water said Smith Tamez had sustained a severe gash to his torehead It is going to be a drowning because he was on the surface and then he went down s rn Uh said no autopsy would he ordered in the death the tenth reported drowning this year in Comal County Tamez body was taken to Doeppenschmidt Funeral Home Three professional divers Paul Kelley Ronnie Waxier and Tim Peir sol associated with Pleasure Divers Club in New Braunfels found the body in 35 feet of water about 15 feet from the base of the cliffs Kelley an instructor reported recovering the body rn just one minute 42 seconds Wolff emotionally distraught over the death of Tamez said they were “best friends closer than brothers He eventually became angry and threatened some people at the scene and wa- arrested by Deputy Clyde Kincaid on a charge of public into.x ic anon As has been the case in nearly all th* drownings this year VNolff told law enforcement officials that alcohol played a part in the tragedy the two had been drinking vodka and orange juice just prior to jump mg from the cliffs THC study likely won't delay state grant for project By SARAH DUHE SUM Writer There likely will be no further delay in receipt of grant funds by City of New Braunfels for utilities work associated with a W a1 Mart distribution center off Hi 35 north of New Braunfels city limits as a result of an archeological survey of the site Texas Historical ('omission THC! has about a month to render final findings based on the survey completed last week .An archeological study of the future distribution center site is complete A city employee hand delivered the study to THC Tues day and now the city must wait for that commission's decision regar ding the study before receiving j:ioo duo in federal grant money Archeologists with Fspev Huston and Associates prepared the draft of the report which states that historic buildings re main on the property Two houses one reported to have been built in the late HKh or early JOU) century were detailed in the archeologists report to the state commission The report states that the historic sites may meet the eligibility re quirement of the National Register of Historic Places One home is described as hav mg a gabled roof with German clapboard siding and enclosed porches The other home is reported to include handmade brick construct tem City employees said both homes as well as other buildings on the property are in disrepair “I nless the state finds vomelhing else to it we feel like lh** study is done " said City Manager Joe Michie The study was requested by the historical commission in response to the city s request for federal grant funds to extend utilities to the distribution center Michie said Tuesday that Wal-Mart officials are very conscious of time and anxious to begin work al the site He added that he hopes the study report will satisfy requirements for determining the historic significance of the area Wal Mart officials were unavailable for comment this morning When the company originally announced that it would locate its distribution center in New Braunfels.
