New Braunfels Herald Zeitung (Newspaper) - September 19, 1993, New Braunfels, Texas Sunday, Sept. 19,1993 ■ HerakJ-Zeitung 9 5A Attacks against Clinton not deserved Dear Editor: Three cheers for Rose Marie Eash's Sept. 9 editorial on "Constructive Criticism!" I have a growing concern, as well, for the seeming epidemic of hostile negativity coming from many citizens; most notably, against President Clinton and the First Lady. I do not personally know the Clintons, but I have met them and I have spent about 20 minutes with each of them individually among small groups of people. My impression of both was that they are well-meaning, caring and intelligent people who have the overwhelming responsibility of leading and guiding a highly complex and diverse nation in a world of growing challenges and opportunities. This is not a partisan sentiment. I felt the sAme way about President and Mrs. George Bush, both of whom I greatly respect. I recently saw a bumper sticker on a pickup truck that read "Not my President." I guess that man is not an American. President Clinton is OUR President for at least three and a half more years. Honest, reasoned, and informed disagreements with his policies are appropriate and strengthen our democracy. The hostile, per- Weight Loss Puzzles Researcher! WASHINGTON — A researcher at National Dietary Research was puzzled at how successful a natural food tablet had become in helping overweight people lose weight. Dr. William Morris was puzzled because the original chewable tablet formula was developed to help feed the world’s undernourished people. Some may say the weight loss is due to the natural plant colloids that Finnish scientists say interferes with the intestinal absorption of calories and Swedish scientists found to cause weight loss in spite of patients being instructed not to alter normal eating patterns. Others may say its the patented ingredient developed by the U.S. Department of Agriculture that burns the fat. But not all scientists agree with these theories so they must be considered speculation pending further study. According to Dr. Morris, the improved formula's weight loss potential is no longer a mystery. The formula called Food Source II (FS-II) contains a powerful appetite blocker that decreases calorie absorption. FS-II comes with a revolutionary diet plan that allows you to lose weight without giving up your favorite foods. With the FS-II Plan there are no forbidden foods and the special appetite control ingredient is one of the most effective available without a prescription. Berkeley-Brown Labs has obtained exclusive distribution rights to FS-II. FS-II is available through pharmacies and other health care professionals. Perhaps those making harsh attacks against this or any other United States President should pause for a moment and ask: Could their own lives and decisions for the country pass judgment in the face of such hostile scrutiny? Kathleen Tobin Krueger New Braunfels Gun control article puts forth facts Dear Editor: It appears that bashing pro-gun people and the NUA is a popular practice with the new media in general. The majority parrot half-truths and outright lies because of the popularity of this tripe with the movie crowd and a minority of misguided influential individuals in and out of government. Mr. Sullens' article regarding "that old Constitutional bugaboo, the right to bear arms," as compared to all the other rights and freedoms we enjoy under the other amendments has illustrated how some people would like to apply certain rights and do away with those that don't suit them. If some citizens desire to play golf, tennis or fish, so be it. Should I want to target practice, hunt or try happens to be my Constitutional right also. Three cheers for1 lr. Sullens' vision in putting the facts into proper perspective, and showing the other side of the coin. Norman Blenewinkel New Braunfels Sanitarian should work with restaurants Dear Editor: I would like to address the problems created by the Herald's recent decision to publish restaurant reports of health inspections performed at local restaurants by City Sanitarian Joe Lara. Allow me to make it very clear that I do not object to having my tearoom inspected nor do I object in Bjrniture    SLEEPWELL    , AREHOUSE More Than Just Beds Much More! _ Quality Furniture at Affordable Prices 210429-8656 New Braunfels SHIES ON VIDEO ee Yourself With Any Hairstyle Change... I do object, however, to the manner in which the inspections are performed and to the subsequent printing of them with no explanation to the public of how inspections are performed and what these infractions of the code really mean. If a report says "food stored next to chemicals", should you leave the obvious conclusion to the reader or should you not explain that a vendor dropped off a sealed case of food during the rush hour and placed it next to a sealed carton of chemicals? Wouldn't it be more objective if these "violations" were followed by a statement from Mr. Lara that "no public health hazard existed?" These reports, taken as stated, can be very misleading and damaging to a business. It would create a much better environment if Mr. Lara would work with us instead of against us, be consistent in his application of the codes, and make some attempt to under stand the codes he enforces. He should also bring the necessary equipment with him rather than expecting owners to provide them. What I expect from Mr. Lara is a competent, objective inspection. I also expect a followup inspection, which he has not yet done. What I expect from your paper is more objective reporting of these inspections. Explanations must accompany these reports or soon the public will think it is simply not safe to eat anywhere except at home June E. Pace owner.
